More On Weddingbee Dvds

December 19th, 2006 @ 4:30 pm by Mrs. Bee

Thanks for all your feedback on the photographer dvds!

When we first thought up the idea, we wanted to create dvds of New York venues (outdoor, churchs, lofts, etc.). See Mr. Bee and I went on a venue visiting spree (8 in one weekend) and if we had had a video tour of these facilities, it would surely have narrowed down the number we visited. So we thought a venues dvd with tours, commentary, and specs such as capacity, cost, etc. would be a really helpful and time saving resource for engaged couples.

But venues would be the most labor intensive dvd to produce and we thought maybe we should start off with florists, photographers, or videographers, then move onto venues, bands, and djs (which would require a lot of original footage).

Several of you mentioned cost as a concern. If they were offered very inexpensively and in your area, which would be of the most value to you?

We’re constantly thinking of ideas to grow weddingbee and make it a better resource for all brides/grooms out there, so your feedback is very invaluable and appreciated. :)

I love the idea I just think it would be hard to produce something that’s specific enough that it’s helpful yet broad enough to appeal to a wide enough audience. For example, I knew we wanted a swing band for our wedding so a DVD of general wedding bands would not be as helpful to me. If you could get a wide variety of vendors on each CD (maybe 50) and divided the DVD into styles or cost or something it would be more helpful.

If you had a DVD that had the 50 or so most popular NYC venues I bet that would go quickly. I probably called 30 venues meanwhile I picked our band, photographer, officiant, etc. after just a few web searches provided me with enough background to know who would best match our needs. We’re pretty decisive though.

Oh I def would buy a dvd for the venues! Although, I could see it just get passed around among people as well (without purchasing). Heck, I think I’d even pay some money for a good powerpoint/spreadsheet with basic information. I had an especially hard time bc I’m planning from another state. I did my internet research, called about 30 places to get pricing and other basic info. Narrowed it down to about 10 and visited them in the course of 2 days. THAT was crazy.

But yeah, even for friends who were planning local weddings in NJ, they said it was such a pain to drive out to all these places… so yeah, I vote for this more than the photographers dvd idea. ^_^

I personally wouldn’t buy it, because I love to research…but that’s just me…and because I’m not in NY, and I doubt you’d do a dvd of my area! ;)

But even if you did, I don’t think I’d buy it, cuz I’m psycho, and actually LOVE being stressed out…ha

most of the venues my fiance and i visited already had their own dvds. they usually gave these out to us once they sat us down to discuss cost and food selection. whenever we got these we would watch them at home and realize that the dvd only showed the venue in its best light. also– i think most venue scouting couples want to see the venue IN PERSON for themselves. i think that everyone’s greatest fear is that what you see on a dvd is not always what the real place looks like. they will obviously try to only highlight the nice parts of the venue and the dvd viewer would never know that the place is like downhill from a cattle farm or something smelly like that.

if i could think of one thing that i would find to be super helpful i think it would have to be a resource that would allow us to see which venues are already booked. this would have eliminated a lot of wasted time going to see places that already had a huge chunk of dates booked. i dont know how exactly you would go about creating something like that but just a thought.

as for a wedding spreadsheet in reference to ms. peach’s comment— (excel sheet for budget, guest list, venue comparison, etc) — i think Apple already makes a wedding software program. i’m not sure what it includes but i recently heard about it..

Wow! You guys are so innovative. Just wanted to add my two cents… I think the dvd is a great idea but I would like to be more of a cd-rom with the spreadsheets and things you can download to your computer. For example, we’ve all seen those sheets with questions to ask your vendors - how about all the questions are filled with answers already. I do agree that your dvd may help you narrow down your search but usually the price ranges already narrow down my search. Also, I would probably only pay $10 plus shipping for the dvd/cd-rom.

I don’t know… me, personally, I need to see photographers, videographers, etc in person - to see how we mesh, to actually be able to see and feel their work - it’s really not the same thing as looking at it online or in a video.
Also, vendors change their prices and expand their styles a lot, so it would have to be really up-to-the-minute - constantly changing… sounds really pricey!
