Save the Dates

December 19th, 2006 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Kiwi

When I first got engaged, I was all about not needing Save the Dates. I mean, most of the invitees live in our city or are very filled in to our wedding info, so why bother? Then I remembered my brother and his wife in Australia… okay, we need to send them one. Oh and Mr. Kiwi’s family upstate. Crap. And various cousins we don’t see all that much. Great, now we need Save the Dates.

Slightly afraid of DIY, (I hold scissors upside down because it’s comfortable - it doesn’t bode well for my craftiness) I saw the post by Mrs. Bee about the “Box of Kisses” postcards and decided that I am going to send out postcard STDs. Since we’re getting married in November of ‘07, I will send them out in February and the “Box of Kisses” postcards will be perfect for our Save the Dates at that time.

Now while our theme is actually fall and the items that are part of it (leaves, acorns, pumpkins), what I’m planning on doing is buying three packs of the postcard books and then stamping something in the background like this stamp found at Impress Rubber Stamp:

With this stamped over it in black ink:

Or we’ll just have the info stamp above with the little leaves stamp below on the right.

And I figure that we’ll send them out in time for Valentine’s day - sort of a romantic postcard, but with our fall wedding touch to it.

Does this seem like a good idea?

I think if you just have the leaves it will be cute, it doesn’t scream “fall.” It looks odd to get something fall-themed in the winter, when you’re looking ahead to spring. I’m stamping mine too (next week) but just with “Save the Date.” I’m going with the hokey but tried and true “Pencils and Mr Pencils are tying the knot!” with a knot of ribbon above–I bought a small hole puncher–and the “save the date” stamp to one side. The cards are Paper Source’s butter, the ribbon will be navy blue, as my colors are pale yellow and navy. I’m hoping to find some jaunty navy striped or otherwise printed ribbon thin enough for the cards, but if I can’t find any, just plain navy. I love ribbon, and plan on hitting Mokuba and Tinsel trading to buy stuff for these, for the invites, and for other wedding items like the bouquets.

I like the little leaves; they add a nice fall touch and set the tone for your wedding. Cute idea to send them around Valentine’s! We are enclosing ours in our holiday cards and sending them this week.

I, too, love these cards & purchased them for my save the dates. Are you still planning on hand-writing your wedding info ? I’m trying to save time and have been thinking about using clear ink-jet labels to print out with all our info– designed in a vintage-style to match the rest of the card. It hasn’t been easy finding the right size label, so the closest i’ve come to applying my own design has been old-school cut&paste of a printout, and I can’t send them out that way. Any suggestions on how to get my info on the card in a classy way? Also, where are you planning on putting your hotel/accommodation info for your guests? There is definately not enough room to to it on the back of each postcard.

Kate, I didn’t even think about all the info needed! I just thought (how sad) “Names, Date, and thanks!” Grrrr. I guess I need to re-think this! I like your clean label idea! I think I’m going to have to go over the information I NEED to include! Thanks for the heads up!
