Beehive

December 21st, 2006 @ 2:45 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • JenL is looking for a good, affordable hairdresser in the A1A area.
  • Erin is looking for a rental company in Northern CT/West Mass.
  • Lindsay wants to know if those pretty silver cake stands she always sees in pictures are provided by the baker or if they’re purchased and where?
  • Jasmin’s coordinator advised her to have open seating for her 400+ guests. Had anyone had a good or bad experience with open seating and what would you suggest for a wedding her size?

I see all those beautiful wedding pictures of bride’s who had their cakes placed on silver cake stands. Is that something provided by the baker? Or can I purchase one for myself - where?

I’ve been advised by a wedding coordinator to have open seating. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with open seating? With 400+ guests, what would you suggest?

I seem to remember a wristlet that you featured earlier this year, but can’t find now… it was a wristlet that you could also hook onto your middle finger so that the bag could also be carried on the back of your hand… any help would be appreciated.

In the current Martha Stewart Weddings, she features an amazing cake stand made of of a piece of plywood. You’d never know. The cake is pink, decorated with gold braid, so they painted an inch-thick piece of plywood pink, wrapped it in matching gold braid, and made cunning little feet out of large pink and gold beads they nailed to the bottom of the board. It’s beautiful, cost hardly anything, and can totally match your cake! I’m thinking of doing it myself for one of our cakes.

If you really want a silver one, check on eBay, but first check with your baker, caterer and venue, because they may provide them.

Hi Erin and Lindsay,

wish i could help out but not I’m not familiar with vendors in your neck of the woods.

lindsay - sometimes your caterer provides the stands and sometimes the brides buy the stands. Check with your caterer. they’re available at many places

thats one quick link i found, but shop around for the best prices. :)

re: open seating, I agree with 400 guests it’s probably a good idea. Way too overwhelming to arrange everyone. I would advise having seats reserved for your family so they don’t end up stuck in some corner, unable to see anything. I attended a wedding with 300 guests and open seating and the poor parents didn’t get good seats.

Erin,
Go to http://www.rentalhq.com, and you can type in your location to find a rental store for party goods. Hope that helps!

lindsay,
The same rental website I just put up would work for you, too. A lot of party rental stores carry cake stands, and cupcake trees.
