Please, no more strapless wedding dresses and red rose bouquets. Do something different.

Miss BOP - gorgeous pics, as always!! :-)

Nancy - if you want “something different” at your wedding, you’re more than welcome. But if Miss BOP decides that what she wants is strapless with red roses (wait, weren’t they peonies?), you really need to respect that & play nice!! The bees are real people too - how would you feel if someone said something like that about your wedding??

A few are okay, I am trying to keep any more bees from lack of originality. Didn’t mean it not to be nice. BOP’s wedding was gorgeous and so was her man.

I would love it if someone could point out the appeal and why it is so common.

Mrs. BoP, I love all of your pictures!! Gorgeous details :) you can really tell all of the TLC you put into the planning…

as for nancy, maybe the red roses and strapless gown aren’t your style, and that’s a perfectly valid opinion to have. and while many people may agree with you, I wouldn’t call it “lack of originality.” It’s a very classic combination and beautiful. It’s sophisticated and elegant ~ which may be why it’s very appealing to many and hence ‘common,’ in your words.

Okay, I am sorry, but classic? Classic what and from where?

Red itself is a classic color, and the red rose has long been a symbol of romance and true love.

Red rose is the symbol of love and fidelity. According to the Greek legend red roses arised from blood of Adonis who was killed by a wild boar on a hunt. In Greek mythology red rose was a symbol for the cycle of growth and decay, but also for love and affinity. The Red rose is dedicated to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and daughter of Zeus and also to Roman goddess Venus. In Christianity the red rose is associated with the Cross and the bloodshed.

Other red items -

Red garlands and red scarfs were part of wedding customs in many cultures. Red wedding gowns were en vogue in Nurnberg of the 18th century, but this tradition goes back to roman times: Roman brides were wrapped in a fiery red veil, the flammeum, which should warrant love and fertility. Greek, Albanian and Armenian brides wear red veils even today. The white wedding gown was initiated by Queen Victoria. Chinese brides are wearing red wedding gowns and are carried to the ceremony in a red litter. The bride walks on a red carpet and is greeted by the groom who lifts her red veil. Neighbours bring red eggs to the couple after a child is born.

yes, we used red, but it was an accent color, though i know you can’t tell that from these set of pics. all of our bouquets consisted only of peonies. peonies were also seen floating in the fountain, as well as in the large arrangements and half of the table centerpiece arrangements. not that it matters, i’m just clarifying. :)

Thanks. I am a designer and that is some costume history and superstition I wasn’t familiar with.

I love peonies, and loved your church, Miss BOP–very royal looking.

I will be making my dress from an old tablecloth.

Love the pics of course! I love that shot of the peonies floating in the fountain! Just so pretty…it was all so pretty! :)

Nancy - Some people LIKE that combination, and I agree…how would YOU feel if someone said that about your wedding? I think that red roses are very beautiful, and I will probably use them in my wedding. But I’m also having a colored dress. Either red or dark blue.

Meh, I’m just going to say it…you’re rude.

Nancy seems to be the grinch of wedding bee. Honesly, seems like you are just looking for something to gripe about. Why would you want to “prevent” someone from doing something they like? If other bees like this color combo who are you to try and change that? And strapless may not be YOUR style or maybe that sytle just doesn’t work on you. But someone petite and cute like Mrs. BOP is a perfect fit for this magnificent Reem Dress. I hope that you will look equally as gorgeous in your homemade tablecloth dress.

ROCK ON MRS. BOP! It was a gorgeous chocolate and deep red wedding with a princess like strapless dress wearing bride.

Merry Christmas Nancy!

That doesn’t mean you have to be rude about Miss BOP’s (or ANYONE’s) wedding.
