For The Flower Girl

December 21st, 2006 @ 11:00 am by Mrs. Violet

I’ve been thinking lately of not going with the traditional petal toss for the flower girl. Instead, I want to make her something that she can keep after the wedding. I’ve been inspired by the picture below.(see link for DIY instructions)

I love this ball of buttons - it’s so playful and appropriate for Christmas. Hang this under the doorway in lieu of a mistletoe. Although buttons are very creative, I’ll probably stick to silk flowers. I’m still tossing around the idea of using real flowers but real flowers won’t last. Silk flowers are always an option. They make it look so real nowadays! On second thought, I’d really like to make a ball of buttons with my wedding colors (brown, green, white & pink). If not for the flower girl, then maybe as a decoration. Would you think it’d be too weird to see a ball of buttons at a wedding?

This will be my last post before the New Year. Mr. Violet and I are off to Japan for the holidays! We’ll be staying with my sister whom I haven’t seen in 4 months!

I think the ball of buttons is really cute. Buttons are a little costly aren’t they? haha. I remember having to buy a button for this coat I had and just that one button cost me almost $5. Maybe if you buy in bulk, it might be less. LOL. I really have no idea…I don’t sew. =) But it would still probably end up costing less than real flowers. Anyway, Very cute and creative.

I actually think it’s really cute, but I think I’d keep it mostly one color like in the picture you have. :) I think if you use multi-colored buttons, it’d get too “cutesy.” Maybe all green with the tiny little accents of brown, pink, and white (or whichever color you want to be the main color). :)

C - I know what you mean. Specialty buttons for coats and such can be quite costly, but if you buy a bag in bulk, it’s actually very affordable.

DW B2B - Yeh, you’re right. One color would be best. I think I’ll try making one when I come back and see how it comes out, just for fun..

i actually like the idea of buttons. it’s not commonly seen at weddings…it would stick out in a good way. i may have to pass this along to my best friend for her wedding decorations

Is it safe to have pins around your wedding? From my flower arrangement class, my instructor strictly told us that we should never use pin on bouquet or flower for younger kids¢¢â€š¬¦ I am just a little concerned about the safety issue; otherwise, I love the idea.
