D-I-Y Cufflinks

December 22nd, 2006 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Plum

It sounds crazy/complicated, but when I saw this tutorial, I was like, “WOW! That’s so easy!” I don’t know if I’ll actually do this, but I thought it’d be interesting to share.

1. Find some old coins, buttons, or whatever you want to use!

2. Super glue them onto cufflink backings.

3. To present them, sew buttonholes onto some scraps of fabric/felt and then link them through the buttonholes.

The end!

You can buy cufflink backings on ebay and in craft stores - they’re kind of hard to find though, so I recommend the ebay route if you’re going to make these for all of your groomsmen!

Peso cufflinks : Got a dapper dresser in your life? Forget buying overpriced cufflinks when you can make your own with pretty much anything. Pick up stainless steel cufflink backings… then glue on any found object: Scrabble letters, old-fashioned typewriter keys or foreign money (like these lovely Mexican pesos).

This idea is awesome! I wish I knew more guys who wore suits, but most our friends fall into the slacker-style category, ha.

I have done this with girly buttons for the 2 shirts I own that take cuff links. Try jewelry supply fro the findings: http://www.jewelrysupply.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4034

Very cool idea!

With cufflink backings running about $9.00 each though, it may be cheaper to buy some cheap cufflinks and modify them:

http://www.neckties.com/Accessories/Mens_Jewelry/Cufflinks/
has some for about $8.00 each and coupon codes can bring the price down even lower. XT196U knocks another 10% off ($7.20 per set).

personalize the cufflinks with mini round frames and put photos in them, decopage old
pieces of writing, stamps, etc onto the back of lab slides(cut into small squares and copper taped edges). ideas are endless.
