Year of the Pig - 2007

December 25th, 2006 @ 12:08 pm by Mrs. Apple

For 2007 brides, these pig coins would serve as adorable wedding favors.

I found these coins on Rare Coin and Prospect Stamps and Coins. They are more expensive than the standard spent on wedding favors, but with a little bit of googling you can find a less pricey similar match. They’re packaged in the traditional colors of good fortune - red and gold - and could also be wonderful Parents of the Groom or Parents of the Bride Gifts.

I would like to incorporate some of my Chinese traditions into our wedding. So after some thought, I think I will incorporate “the year of the pig” into our 2007 wedding and possibly use favors, gifts, or thank you stamps with a cute pig stamp.

Since the year of the pig is more of a personal affection for you, I’d probably stay away from giving them as favors. I’m not well versed in Chinese tradition, but as a regular (read American) wedding guest I wouldn’t know what to do with a pig coin. I think it would be great as a little gift for the parents or bridal party since they’ll probably have a better understanding and appreciation of it all.

Maybe it’s me, and maybe it’s lack of impulse control–but the first thing I blurted out when I saw these coins was “SOME PIG!”

Or maybe it’s because I love Charlotte’s Web…

Isn’t Chinese New Year different from the Calender year? You might want to make sure you’re giving a coin that corresponds to the right year…
