364 More Days!

December 26th, 2006 @ 1:04 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Ya know, I’ve got to say there is nothing better than coming in to work at 8am the morning after Christmas. Wait- no. Mr. Kiwi getting to stay home and eat all of our holiday leftovers while I toil away at work is the best. Yeah, right. Anyway, hope everyone had a Happy Holidays!

It was great to see all our families, three full days of Christmas celebrations jam-packed with fun and love. One thing that was super awesome? Mr. Kiwi and I were gifted with some things off our registry! We got most of our barware and a few settings of our flatware (”Couture” from Crate and Barrel).

The one downside to getting some registry gifts early is Mr. Kiwi wants us to not use them until we’re married. Which is a sweet sentiment, but I want to use my new glasses!!! Oh well, it’s okay, I understand.

My cousin Karen (and family), an avid Wedding Bee reader, got us some amazing nesting mixing bowls and those collapsible silicone measuring cups and spoons. Perfect for apartment living- things that fold into themselves. Seeing Karen’s babies (one is our flower girl) was a gift in itself, but she also offered to let me borrow her wedding-day bracelet as well! How cool is that?

In other Christmas/Wedding related news, I picked up one of our centerpiece vases from my aunt who had purchased them for us, and Mr. Kiwi and I are going to experiment with them to see what we can create. He seems to be very happy about this upcoming wedding - I think it’s because we saw people this weekend who didn’t know about the engagement, and they were super happy for us. Of course, this leaves the most uncomfortable question from slightly distant friends and family, “Am I invited?” Yikes.

Overall, it was a fantastic Christmas, the only downside is coming back to work today. Booooooo.

I think in all technical senses your FI is right about not using the gifts but I TOTALLY understand the temptation.

Some people are just superstitious about it, too, like if they use them they are jinxing the wedding!

We got a BBQ for Christmas which was totally going to be on a registry, but since it was a Christmas gift, you better bet we’re busting it out, soon! I love the convenience of a BBQ. Same goes for our Christmas gifted down comforter and duvet cover. :-)

I’d be tempted to use the stuff, too…but I don’t think I would.

Oh, I’m totally using everything before the wedding. I understand why people don’t, but I can’t bear to have beautiful, new All-Clad pots still in the boxes while I continue to use cr*ppy uneven cookware.

i would so totally be tempted to use them. of course, i’d also be totally against using them too [weird, i know] but as i found out this christmas, i’m very susceptible to my bf’s peer pressure ;-)

Yay for flatware! We’ve been married for 6 months and surviving on 3 place settings. This Xmas we got 9 more settings so we’re stocked for a lifetime!

I say use ‘em now…who will know except you??

Oh my - too funny!

We picked the same flatware and glasses as you did - we love them!!!!!

I didn’t use any of my gifts before because we were planning on moving 2 months after the wedding. So I actually had to wait till than - but loved putting the new stuff out in our new home!
