About Mrs. Pearl

Merry Christmas

December 26th, 2006 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Pearl

This year, I really feel like I lucked out in the presents department. I got a couple things I’ve really been wanting from Santa. We’re taking a 10 day trip to New York starting on the 27th — the first leg of the trip will be to visit Sister of Pearl in Syracuse. She just had a baby on December 12, so I’m excited to go get my first look at the baby!! I will also get to see my other nephew/godson, who I love and adore.

After a couple of days, Mr. Pearl and I will be heading into New York City and spending about a week there. We’ll be in town for New Year’s, the second time I’ve spent it in the Big Apple. It’s the first big vacation that Mr. Pearl and I have taken, so we’re both very excited and sure to make it a fabulous holiday.

I know it seems like that’s about all I should be getting for Christmas, but wait…it gets better!

Mr. Pearl knows I’m a bonafide TV junkie and has further supported my habit by purchasing me a TiVo!! Now I won’t miss any of my favorite shows while on vacation. :) He further spoiled me by also purchasing me a really nice all-in-one photo printer. He knows that I fully intend on doing some DIY projects and my other printer decided to die one day with no warning.

Aside from my excitement over presents, I mainly wanted to post to see if people had any suggestions for places to dine at or visit while we’re in NYC. I’ve been there a couple of times before, but there are still many things I haven’t done (mostly since before, I was kind of low budget, as a student). I know there are a lot of New York City people out there, so please feel free to shower me with suggestions. And because we’re truly a high tech/dorky couple, we’ll have the laptop (and Treo and BlackBerry) with us to check back on what people recommend. :) If it helps any, we’re staying in the Midtown East area.

DH and I loved Patsy’s Pizzaria on 60th. We were in NY for our honeymoon and ate there probably 2 or 3 times! Super jealous you are going this time ofyear! Have a blast though! There are SO many things to do! We are going back this summer to finish it all!

Most definitely have some sangria at Asia de Cuba, it’s worth it..there are a ton of places to eat and a great way to get reservations is to visit opentable.com and if you have any questions about places, let us know!

Skip Asia de Cuba. We have that here at home at the Mondrian!

For the yummiest breakfast/brunch ever, go to Norma’s at Le Parker Meridien. It’s on 57th between 6th and 7th. Make a reservation on OpenTable if you can — it gets crowded! The sweet stuff is superior to the savory, but if you’re hankering for the savory, hit the Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien, too. It’s hidden behind a curtain in the corner. There’s no sign except for a neon burger.

You’ll be pretty close to MOMA, which has a sweet gift shop. Also, as far as museums go, don’t miss the Met.

Visit SoHo, Chinatown, and Little Italy. Eat at Balthazar or Blue Ribbon or Blue Ribbon Sushi in SoHo, or have dim sum in Chinatown. BTW, the NYC Paul Frank store is on Mulberry Street. Hee.

Hit Magnolia, if only to confirm that Sprinkles kicks its butt. Marc Jacobs is really close by, and sometimes it even has a Santa Claus around this time of year. If you’re in the West Village late at night, try Corner Bistro, a yummy burger place that is open during the wee hours.

If you visit the Hell’s Kitchen area, consider Churrascaria Plataforma, a great Brazilian barbecue. There is also Burgers & Cupcakes in the Hell’s Kitchen area, which I haven’t tried yet. (Yes, I have a one-track mind.)

It seems I did more eating than preparing for trial while I was in NYC. ;)

I’ve never been to NYC so no suggestions from me here. :) I hope you have a great trip visiting family. Sounds like these New York savvy folks will help you out with the “where to go” stuff. Have fun and a cupcake for me!
