Reader Buzz: Hair Care

December 28th, 2006 @ 1:46 pm by Reader Buzz

Mrs. Bee here.

Many brides grow out their hair to have the most options for wedding hairstyles. So I thought that we’d do a reader buzz on hair care products to help keep your hair in tip top shape. I’m kind of obsessed with hair care products because I do so much crap to my hair. Why can’t girls just leave their hair alone? :P

Currently I’m using Frederic Fekkai’s Protein Rx Reparative Shampoo and Conditioner and I really like it a lot.

My regularly used products include Biosilk on my ends, Phyto Phytomist for detangling, and good oil VO5 Hot Oil Treatments.

Every now and then I’ll also do a deep conditioning with Kerastase’ Masquintense or Rene Furterer Karite Nourishing Conditioning Cream.

Some other lines/products I recommend:

Another wacky thing I do that really works, is rinsing my hair with beer. I only do this once in a blue moon, but I swear it really makes your hair soft and shiny!

What are some of your favorite hair care products and tips?

i dont really use the fancy stuff for my hair. however, i do think its important to go see your hair stylist at least once every 3 months. regular maintenance really helps because by the time your wedding rolls around, you’ll already have the beautiful locks!

i think finding your wedding day hair stylist should be one of the first things you do, since your hair takes the longest to grow.

i use cheap shampoo and conditioner (suave and white rain are generally about $1/bottle); i have a hard time spending $ on something that goes down the drain everyday.

i concur with m. butterfly; regular haircuts are really important. i’ve gone as long as a year without a cut, and the feeling after a haircut is unbelievable and cannot be duplicated.

yes! it sounds crazy, but a beer rinse makes my hair so soft & shiny!

here’s a tip for minimizing split ends: if you are getting layers in your hairstyle, ask your hairstylist to only use scissors, no razoring! ever since I started asking for this, I only cut my hair once a year (I’m cheap! and like to alternate between long & short styles), yet I don’t get ANY split ends.

I use L’Oreal VIVE for dry and rebellious hair that’s thick. And I get compliments all the time and it’s not that expensive. But, I need a deep conditioning stuff to maintain my now *long* hair (for the wedding) and so, thank you Mrs. Bee!

i love purologys line for color treated hair (the purple bottles)… the conditioner is so minty and it makes ur hair feel soooo good! its worth the money… i advise u to stay away though because its like crack! once u use it u cant go back to anything else, ive been trying to save money by using something cheaper but my hair never feels the same!

i LOOOOOVE biosilk and crede ER…. i just use a crappy drugstore shampoo and the crede makes my hair silky every day. it’s amazing the difference it makes. i also use john frieda brilliant brunette glossing to add shine and make hair look more finished… i’m going to have to try the beer rinse.

i too love Kerastase and Terax, but one product line that I’ve become a HUGE fan of is Ojon Haircare. I first tried the Restorative Hair Treatment (which can be used as a deep conditioning treatment, leave-in, or shine enhancer, depending on the amount you use). My hair feels transfromed everytime I do the treatment! I now also use the Detox Recovery Ritual (great for dry scalp in the winter season and as a purifying shampoo) and the Ultra Hydrating Conditioner (which thickens your hair). I can’t recommend this line more!

Thanks for the tips everyone! I will definitely try getting layers with scissors and try the detanglers. (My hair behind my neck always gets tangled!) How do you rinse your hair in beer exactly?

I’ve recently fell in love with Pantene’s Sleek and Smooth line (especially the conditioner!). It makes my hair smooth and soft.

I third Sarain Seattle-Aveda products are fabulous. My slaon uses them. They are sort of pricey but I switch off between Aveda and Burt’s Bees products. My hair is super thick and curly but when weather conditions permit I blow it out straight.

If you have thick, easily dry hair try the Aveda, it works wonders and smells delicious.

I second SarainSeattle - Aveda’s Damage Remedy Conditioner is awesome for days when your hair feels so dry. I used it the day after my wedding to get rid of the knots and help my hair feel fresh and healthy after being teased and damaged.

i use dove, that works. i also like thermasilk since i blow dry my hair into submission every week. and the v05 hot oil treatments and my sister’s hair mask. i can’t remember what name it is but it comes in a little orange bottle.

as far as home treatments, i rinse in a mixture of lemon juice [that real lemon stuff] and water to help control dandruff and every so often i have been known to use a mayonnaise conditioning treatment. yup, just help yourself to some mayo and slather it on your ends and ta da. niceness. though i can’t help but feel like a sandwich :-P

I love love LOVE V05’s Hot Oil Treatment! Also, since my hair is prone to tangles, every single time I wash it, I use Aussie’s “Knot Forgotten”. It really does detangle that mess, and makes my hair SO SO soft! I highly recommend it even if you just want a deep conditioning, and don’t have problems with knots…you lucky lucky ones! Hehe.

I use Mane N’ Tail (thanks to Ms. Apple’s post) shampoo and finish off with Origin’s ginger conditioner–I have oily hair and find that this conditioner doesn’t add to oil at the end of the day. Beer on your hair? I’ll have to try!!

Pantene works best on my thick and unruly hair. From time to time I use Nigelle DS shampoo and TF (Tender Feel) conditioner. I also use Mucota oil on my ends - it’s expensive at about $40 for a small bottle but you only need to use a drop to get good results.

My hair is very healthy since I don’t do anything to it. Other than occasional dry, static hair I have no problems. I’m a self proclaimed beauty care product junkie and Weleda Rosemary Hair Oil is the only hair care product I’ve been using consistently. I only use it when I remember but I always get lots of comments about how shiny my hair is after using it. I try new shampoo every single time I go through one product and haven’t found one that I love yet.
