Vendor review: Tompkins Square Bakery, Matt Hutchins

Wedding_mels_pics_008

Ok, can I just say, my cake was the prettiest cake I have ever seen? Of course I may be biased since I chose the cake myself with Mr. Daisy by my side, but really– it ruled. Matt at Tompkins Square Bakery was a *delight* to work with. we met with him back in July and decided to use one of his pre-existing cake designs, with a couple of tweaks (no fruit and different colors in ours). After a tasting of some fab cake, we decided on alternating layers: (1) chocolate cake with mocha filling (2) yellow cake with chocolate and vanilla filling. (Because Matt’s cakes are three layers–rather than the standard two–we were able to do multiple filling flavors.)

The cake was delicious enough that people remembered to eat it, despite the two other desserts we had served (warm chocolate cake with molten center and individual apple pies with cinnamon ice cream) and some even requested seconds. Matt was timely, responsible, sweet and produced a stunning and delicious product. I would absolutely recommend him to any bride. (His prices are absurdly reasonable for someone of his talent in the NY market). Tompkins Square Bakery: A+++

Check out that detail! People could not even believe me when I told them that the cake did not contain a single “real” flower. The gumpaste/sugarpaste work was genius!
