Reader Buzz: Kissing

December 29th, 2006 @ 1:00 pm by Reader Buzz

Every month Real Simple Magazine asks its readers a question, then publishes the best answers and selects one winner. This month’s questions was:

If you had an extra 15 minutes in your day, how would you use it?

This was the winning entry:

Recently my husband and I started couples counseling. We weren’t in crisis, and we weren’t angry - we were just sort of… distant. Our therapist told us to kiss more. It sounded silly, but it turned out to be the most amazing thing! Suddenly we were looking for reasons to kiss, and it reminded us how much we love each other and want to be together. If I had an extra 15 minutes, I’d pucker up.

I told Mr. Bee about this, and he immediately said, “Reader Buzz?” :P But it really did get me thinking because I don’t think we kiss enough! And I don’t mean those goodbye and hello pecks - I mean real kisses! It should be one of our New Year’s resolutions.

Do you and your significant other kiss often? (The real kisses I mean :D.)

my FI would say we don’t kiss enough.. he is very lovey and PDA-ish, while i am more reserved (must be the asian thing).. he is always showering me with kisses, but not vice versa..

We don’t kiss in public, unless it’s just a quick peck here and there…we are VERY anti-PDA.

But when we’re alone, we constantly kiss! We’re very lovey dovey together! :D

Not enough to me! Mr. Kiwi and I do the goodbye and hello kisses, and sometimes random “Hey baby” kisses. Not so much the “big girl” kisses (as I call them). Those come sporadically. The thing is, we’re soo busy nowadays, it’s hard to find time to be all mouthy. :)

This is such a great tip. We’ve done it in the past, and it works! Another tip: At first you may have to make sure your kisses last at least 15 seconds. That doesn’t sound long, but when you’re actually kissing, you’ll see that it *is* longer than your typical peck :)

I love this idea! We are not anti-PDA, but this is a great idea because kissing leads to other things which we also don’t do enough of!

Me and Mr dragonfly kiss here and there, even in public when we are at the mall. He would just look at me and say “kiss” and I give him a peck on the lips…it’s cute~ If I had extra 15min a day, I think I would just spend it with Mr D since we don’t live together yet. Just sit there and talk about silly things~

that’s one of the things we’ve got down just fine. some of our family and friends would say we kiss too much!
we don’t get frisky at inappropriate times or anything of the sort but we do show affection and give each other tons of kisses all of the time. :)

We have “1-2-3″ kisses, which we invented while driving. One of us counts to three slowly then leans in and pecks the other one. Lol we’re sooo lame and cute. :-P But that’s just about the closest we come to PDA. As far as “real” kisses are concerned…not often enough :-( We just don’t think about it. But now we must try that 15 seconds thing!!!

We don’t kiss often. I think it’s because of two bad experiences I had in the past. 1- One of my exes would slobber me with kisses. Needless to say that relationship didn’t last too long. 2- My mom and I were in line for something at Niagra Falls and there was this fugly couple in front of us engaged in too much PDA. It was disgusting.

My Fiance is feeling very neglected, ’cause he isn’t getting kissed much. Mostly because I refuse to share whatever nastiness it is that has made me sick for the past few days.

I wish we have more of those “staring into each other’s eyes as he strokes my hair” kisses lol But I’m kinda anal with the moment and the mood, for example “real” kisses right after a meal is a no no. And the best time to kiss is right after brushing. I know, it’s bad, I’m mixing hygiene with pleasure. But you gotta cover the basics before romance.

Haha…my bf would say we don’t kiss enough. My bf loves trying to make out with me but I don’t like it so much just because I’d rather cuddle and plus I have nasal allergies so I have a hard time breathing if we kiss for a long time. I need to come up for air! :-P
