About Mrs. Lime

Colors!

December 30th, 2006 @ 1:07 pm by Mrs. Lime

After much hemming and hawing, I finally picked my colors so that I could move on with my wedding planning life. Introducing red + soft aqua, with touches of white + chocolate brown where neutrals are required…

Being the neurotic that I am, I will probably do the above again with paints next time I am back in my office.

Other examples and inspiration:

‘Pool’ does not equal ‘tiffany blue.’ Yes, I am picky.

I particularly like the blue ink on red paper. Apparently, many Asian cultures say you should never write names in red as it indicates death, so that works for me!

Red and blue are significant in Korean weddings, apparently. The yin-yang, which is red and blue for Koreans, symbolize male (red/positive) and female (blue/negative), balance, yadda yadda. Yay for finding symbolic meaning for colors I just like anyway!

Nice color choices. I love the Cavallini bird motif paper used in the tabletop pic. It’s interesting to hear about the different Asian superstitions…

i was so inspired by the martha color palette of red and aqua that i chose it for my upcoming wedding. warning: there aren’t really any true aqua flowers. my florist and i are about to start experimenting with spray painting flowers and branches to get the aqua component in the centerpieces…

Hey that’s what I picked too! Martha was my inspiration, I’m so glad to see it popping up more often lately.

thanks, ladies!

cassie, no worries. i am planning on doing all red flowers. i’m going to try to bring the aqua in through other components-linens, votive holders, overlays/runners, etc.

I recently picked those as my wedding colors too, only with chocolate brown as the main and red and aqua as the accents. I love how vibrant they are. :)

Count me in as a red and aqua with chocolate accents bride! As for aqua flowers, the latest InStyle Weddings has a bouquet with red flowers (don’t remember what kind) and aqua berries, looked very pretty.

ellen,
you can see my later entries for the flower ideas i gathered and what i ended up with. i stuck to red flowers as most naturally-occurring blue flowers are more on the dusty periwinkle/blue-purple side (think hydrangea) and i only wanted aqua (which usually has lots of green in it). plus i personally haven’t loved how images i’d seen of other blue flowered weddings turned out except for the most high-budget (which my wedding was not). i’m not a fan of dyed flowers, so red it was.

as you can see in my later entries with real pro pics, i got enough blue integrated via bridal party’s dresses and accessories and with my centerpiece underlayments. good luck!
