Inform Us…

December 31st, 2006 @ 1:13 pm by Mrs. Apple

“We suggest having the ring bearer carry a pillow with two inexpensive symbolic rings instead of the actual bands. We have heard horror stories of rings falling off the pillow and bridesmaids on hands and knees in the church foyer searching desperately on the wildly patterned carpet for them. Fortunately, in all stories, the rings were recovered; however, we believe the wedding bands are always safer in the best man’s pocket.”

Are you putting the real rings on the ring bearer’s pillow?

I plan on ptting Ringpops on the pillows, its cute and the ringbearer and flowergirl can eat them to keep quiet during the ceremony.

Absolutely not! I’ve heard the same stories. I’ve also heard stories of very small ringbearers refusing at the last second to walk down the aisle at all–what about the rings then? My ringbearers are older boys, but I’m still not giving them the rings.

I love the Ringpops idea.

We aren’t having a ringbearer, so it’s not an issue for us. I’ve never seen a wedding where they held the real rings, though, and so I guess most people go with the faux rings on the pillow.

A couple of points, though…
If you were giving them to the ringbearer, all you’d have to do is sew them w/ a loose thread to the pillow, or tie them on with ribbon. There isn’t much room to lose them between the front and back of the aisle. And, if the child decides not to walk, then someone else just takes them up there at the last minute.

And, with the ring pop….it’s a cute idea for them to have, but might be best saved for later on in the day. I totally could imagine a little kid getting that ring poppy goodness all over people’s clothes while they’re walking around the bridal party (cause they rarely stand still!)

I’m thinking about sewing a little pocket onto my pillows (taken from Modern Bride magazine’s Dec.-Jan. issue), but I’m not sure if I am going to actually put the rings in the pocket.

We had planned on using the real rings on the pillow, but my husband forgot the rings in the car until his best man asked for them about 2 minutes before the ceremony started. So I saw my husband to be race out of the church and then race back in, panting, “I forgot the rings!” So the rings just got handed to the best man at that point.

A friend of mine mentioned that at a wedding she attended, the couple gave Godiva boxed chocolate favors that were tied with ribbon and two fake gold rings. I went to a Godiva store and they were willing to sell me two of the ring charms for $1 each, and that’s what I tied to the ring bearer pillows. Couldn’t have been cheaper and easier, and they don’t look half bad either!

We have planned from the beginning to not have the actual rings on the pillow; the MOH and best man will carry them. We are going to do what that quote suggests and use inexpensive rings. The ring pop idea is really cute, but we have 3 children in our wedding (2 flower girls and 1 ringbearer), so there wouldn’t be enough if we only put two on there; plus, I don’t want them getting sticky messes on their clothes during the ceremony!

Wow, that never even occurred to me. Dang. I like the ringpops idea! And I just checked that book out at the library.

We’re not having a ring bearer, so it’ll be another duty for our honor attendants. We will have a 7-year-old flower girl and she might carry the rings, and I would trust her to do so.

I didn’t want a little one to throw a tantrum or not make it down the aisle at all…I’ve seen disasters… :-)
