In today’s hive:

  • Rosie is looking for pictures of green and orange weddings for a good friend’s wedding next fall. She also wants to knoe if mini calla lilies come in orange.
  • Brianna is looking for a highly-skilled inexpensive seamstress/dressmaker in the Philly area to recreate a dress.
  • Juli is looking for a reputable company to purchase mossanite or man-made diamonds.
  • Alisa has a tattoo on her left shoulder blade and doesn’t want it to show. Any ideas on elegant/simple wedding dresses that aren’t strapless or how to cover it up and not worry about it showing?
  • CBeth’s afternoon wedding is vintage inspred and she’s looking for a tea-length wedding dress preferably with a very full skirt. She’s open to an ivory bridesmaid dress but wants it to look bride-ish.
  • Liliknoi is looking for a place in LA (South Bay) to take dance lessons.
  • moi is looking for hanbok rental places in Garden Grove or Los Angeles/Ktown and approx. cost.
  • hm is looking for pictures of Chinese inspired chi-paos or different interpretations of chi-paos you might have to share.

Rosie, mini calla lilies come in all sorts of colors…you’d probably be interested in the mango calla lilies.

Rosie - here is a pink, green, orange knottie bio: http://talk.theknot.com/boards/User/Profile.aspx?bioname=PinkGreenOrange

Hope that helps! She also has links to more bios on her bio…

Question~ I have a tattoo on my left shoulder blade. I’m getting married next October and need to make sure the tattoo isn’t seen…any ideas on elegant/simple wedding dresses that aren’t strapless? Or any ideas on how to cover the tattoo and not worry about it showing?

I need dress help! My afternoon wedding is vintage-inspired and I’m looking for a tea-length wedding dress (preferably with a very full skirt). I’m open to it being an ivory bridesmaid dress, but I want it to still look “bride”-ish. Thanks!

I’m looking for a place in Los Angeles County to take dance lessons for our wedding. We live in the south bay, so something in that area would be best.

I’m a bit lost as to what to look for, as I’m not a dancer at all. FI has picked “Wink and a Smile” by Harry Conick Jr. (from Sleepless in Seattle) for our first dance.

Thanks!

Forever Bridals has a couple of tea length dresses that are both very cute and “vintagey.” I like this one very much.

And this British designer has amazing, amazing tea-length, 50s and 60s inspired dresses:

don’t know how easy they are to find in the US, though.

CBeth, I don’t know if it’s available, but I adored the Michelle/Henry Roth dress we featured a little while ago. http://www.weddingbee.com/2006/12/20/henry-michelle-roth-spring-2007/

What’s your budget for the dress?

moi - a lot of the dduk places like Olympic dduk jip on olympic and harvard rent them out. My brother rented his from a place at 3000 wilshire (213) 427-0560. It was around $150. Good luck!

Does anyone have pictures of Chinese inspired chi-pao’s or different interpretations of chi-pao’s to share?

Alisa, I have a tattoo at the same place. I’ve heard of tattoo-cover up, and I’ve thought about purchasing it for my wedding. I’m not sure who carries it, though. My mom and I went to Estee Lauder and the rep hadn’t even heard of it. I think I’m going to try Mac next.

For covering tattoos, there’s a company called Covermark that sells a tattoo cover kit. Google it, you’ll be able to find someplace that sells it. I’ve seen it mentioned in bridal magazines for just your issue, although I’ve never used it myself (no tattoos.)

Question - We have to come up with a backdrop for our ceremony location.. My catering manager suggested using fish wire to hang something on it, but I haven’t been able to find any pictoral examples.. Any suggestions?

Lilikoi, Depending on the kind of dancing you want, you could try the local community colleges like Santa Monica College and the like.

I think that waltzing is over rated, so instead I’d go for Swing Dancing. It’s classy, you dance to just about anything with it and there are cheap and effective lessons in the South Bay:

Rusty is a wonderful instructor! She offers group lessons and one on one lessons as well. Good luck!

Thanks for the links–both of the dresses are beautiful! And Mrs. Bee, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that post (I decided on tea-length just last week). My budget is $600, but I’m thrifty and would love to find something dirt cheap.

CBeth– you can also get a tea-length dress made for that price using one of the vintage reproduction patterns (+ local dressmaker) at Vogue or (if you are a svelte lass) doing a web search for the real vintage patterns (www.sovintagepatterns.com is excellent). A local dressmaker should be able to make one for you under $600 using a taffeta or silk of your choice (within reason). I’m having one made myself (tea-length, vintage-inspired, Vogue reproduction pattern) and the estimates have come to roughly $500.

cbeth,
You can also check out the store–white house black market. They have lots of vintagey-looking reasonably priced dresses. I fell in love with this one last weekend (try to ignore the skanky-looking woman wearing it–it was cute, honest!)

Tatoo Covering-
Alisa & Tessa

Movie companies use Dermablend, it will cover ANYTHING from tatoos to scars it runs between $18 and $25. You can order online at http://www.dermablend.com or use their store locator to see if there’s one in your area.

MAC cosmetics also makes an opaque conceler called studio finish, which you can test in the store, that runs $14.50

Jan77, I have seen pictures of daisy chains strung up behind a ceremony site–gerbera daisies would look lovely that way. You could also consider doing hanging votives at different lengths.
