Made In Thailand

January 2nd, 2007 @ 3:37 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

Thank you all so much for your comments about the bridesmaid dresses. I agree about them being too expensive, especially with alterations on top of the dresses.

So we have decided to have them made in Thailand. Good friends of ours got married last year and had everything made there. The bride’s mom lives in Phuket, so it was a great option. She even had her wedding dress made and it was gorgeous!

Mr. Raspberry will be having his tux made in Thailand also. He is tall with long, skinny arms, so nothing fits him well and tuxes from rental places look really goofy on him.

Our friend who had everything done there and I are having a pow wow next Monday to get everything rolling. Basically, I will buy a dress in the color that I want (I thought I would wear it for the rehearsal dinner) and then send it to Thailand. They will then send back fabric swatches for me to choose the color from. We are going with Thai silk which is very similar to dupioni silk and they’ll make the dresses to the exact measurements of my bridesmaids! No alterations necessary!

More posts about the process next week! :)

My BM was in another wedding this year where the bride got the BM dresses made in Hong Kong. Though they had only one fitting (in England where the bride resides), it all went well without much problem. So, I think your decision is very good :-)

That sounds like a great idea! I was going to do something similar but use a local seamstress. I’ll have to check in with my future MIL to see if she has any such contacts in Thaliand…

That’s wonderful. I’m getting some of my dresses tailored in Thailand also. I will be going there in April to take pictures, print out invites & get dress/suits made. I’m so excited. I know you’ll save a ton of money doing it this way. :)

I just got back from India and got all my bridesmaids’ dresses made there. Total price per dress, $25
