That Is So Money

January 2nd, 2007 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Apple

I’m a money cruncher. I love to break everything down to the last penny. So the budgets, forecasting, analyzing of m-o-n-e-y for the wedding is really fun for me. Strange, I know.

Like most brides out there I’ve been using excel spreadsheets to keep track of all of my credit card purchases, vendor payment schedules, small online purchases, and for budgeting purposes. I’ve been pretty good about not charging too much and buying only necessary items, but now that it’s crunch time (about 5 months left until the wedding), the credit card charges are becoming more frequent and it’s making me a little nervous.

Up until now, my excel spreadsheets have been great but I’m sure there are better programs out there. Does anyone know of good programs for brides who are struggling to keep up with wedding related bookkeeping?

i’ve been using google spreadsheets, which is similar to excel. excel has more functionality, but google spreadsheets allows me to open up the spreadsheet in several places without having to email the file to myself.

Wait, I bought the save-the-date materials, and some ribbon for the StDs and for decor. I think I’ll try the Google program–my fiance is a big fan of Google, and that way both of us can get into the files wherever we are.

Uh, you mean I should be keeping track of these things??? It’s only five months until my wedding too!

Actually, the truth is, I haven’t bought anything other than wedding magazines, and they come out of my personal budget. Even the $10 British ones. We only set our date of June 3rd less than a month ago, and with Christmas in the way, we haven’t done any other planning yet. I’ve chosen my gown, I just need to call around and find who has the best deal. Which I may do, well, today at lunchtime. Which it is!

I too use Google Spreadsheets. I know it can be tedious at times to enter in every transaction, but I like having it formatted the way I like it. I find it handy to just stack up my receipts in one spot and then enter in the purchases at once.

I track ALL of my expenses in Microsoft Money and I tag wedding purchases as wedding. But, this just gives me a rough total as I’m not as detailed with it. It definitely isn’t to the penny.
