Beehive

January 3rd, 2007 @ 2:14 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • jan77 needs to come up with a backdrop for her ceremony and her catering manager suggested using fish wire to hang something. Do you have any suggestions or pictures?
  • moi wants to know for those of you who did the vowtobefit program, how much did you lose and is the weight staying off?
  • SarainSeattle is looking for this straw-like paper. Does anything know what this is called and where she might find it?
  • Jennifer wants to know if anyone has bought dresses online at stores like Netbride. She’s a bit wary about buying a dress but is open to buying a lace jacket. What has your experience been?
  • JP wants to know if tan suits are “allowed” for non-outdoor ceremonites. She loves the look but if the wedding is indoors, at a chapel, at 4:00 in late May, could it work?
  • le12jade is looking for churches in Queens that will marry nondenominational members. Also is it too crazy to have an outdoor wedding at the end of October 2007?

I have looked high and low for this “straw-like paper” (see link) used on a belly band (courtesy of rock paper scissors design). Does anyone know what this type of paper (if it is paper) is called and where I could find it?

hi moi, as i’ve previously blogged about, i lost almost 9 pounds and gained 3 back over the holiday eating extravaganza. two of my friends that did the program with me each lost 7 pounds.

as with every diet/exercise program, if you revert back to old lifestyle habits, you’ll gain the weight back. it’s a great kick start to get you motivated. in fact i’m doing a variation on the 9 day program right now because i had so many weddings and pig out fests the past two months. :P

Has anyone bought their dress online? Can it really be trusted? I have been reading really good reviews about NetBride.com. Does anyone have experience with this? I am a bit weary about buying the actual dress online, but would be open to buying a lace jacket online. Any suggestions?

I guess you have tried Daniel Smith?? I wonder if this is really paper? Can you get it from Rock Paper scissors. I think they are in Portland.

You can find paper similar to that at Paper Zone or The Paper Source in Bellevue, it comes in big sheets that are anywhere from $3-$15 a piece.

Are tan suits “allowed” for non-outdoor ceremonies? I was looking through a friend’s wedding pictures and the groom and gmen looked so *blah* in their black suits. I love the look of tan suits but if the wedding is indoors at a lovely chapel at 4pm in the late May, it could work…..right?

Does anyone know of any churches in Queens, NY that will marry non-denominational members? Will it be too crazy to have an outdoor wedding end of October 2007?

Jennifer - I bought my dress (which includes a lace jacket) through PerfectBridal.com and my bridesmaids dresses from NetBride.com. Both companies were wonderful, well priced and all the dresses arrived a month earlier than scheduled.

I hate to say it, but an outdoor wedding in October would be really cold. I was a bridesmaid at a wedding on Long Island this past October and we were freezing trying to take pictures outside before the ceremony. Your guests would be really uncomfortable. Sorry.

Jan77, I have seen pictures of daisy chains strung up behind a ceremony site¢¢â€š¬”gerbera daisies would look lovely that way. You could also consider doing hanging votives at different lengths.

Jennifer, I also bought my dress online and (like the Jennifer that responded!) it also included a lace jacket. I bought through Pearls Place (www.pearlsplace.com) at a good price and it came in early. I did have a slight snafu–the dress came without any of its many covered buttons but I told them about it and they paid for shipping back, got one with the buttons, and mailed it back quicker than they said they would. Since they dealt with the problem quickly and at no cost to me, I’d recommend them.

SarainSeattle, I’m using a paper similar to that, and my mother calls it “rice paper.” Might want to look at that, I think you can find it at just about any scrapbooking/craft store.

Inviations question?

I’m in NYC and trying to figure out who to use for my invitations.
My wedding is 9/29/06 so I should find someone soon right?
Originally I was thinking of going down the letterpress route–they are so beautiful.
In order to stay in my budget, I think I’m going to have to opt out of that.

So I was wondering who you are using for your invitations–any good recommendations?
I know of this on weddingbee
http://www.weddingbee.com/invitationsstationery/
But I was hoping for more specific info.
Could you let me know:

1) What Invitation vendor
2) Website or contact info
3) Price range
4) How many invites you’re getting
5) What kind of process you are using
6) If you have pics to share of them?

Thanks–much appreciated!

I live in NYC and am having my bridal shower on saturday midday. Since I have a bunch of out of town friends, I am going to have my bachalorette party that night, because i want all my girls to be there:) In the past few months, I have attended bachallorette parties were we did the spa thing, took a strip dancing class, did karoke and had a sex toy lady come to someones apt. Does anybody have any suggestions for something else to do? Thanks!

Alyson is your shower soon or during warmer weather?
If its warm you can go to coney island?

Maybe you can do a bowlmor lanes type thing instead of the typical girly girl stuff?

MCRBride the shower will be in May. I love the bowlmor idea! Especially since that is basically where I met my fiance! Anyone have any other suggestions?

Wondering if anyone has any good suggestions of a restaurant that will rent itself out for either a cocktail party or luncheon bridal shower? Searching high and low and can’t find a place that will accomadate 50 people, has nice decor (ugly will not do) and is reasonably priced! Help!

Hi Ladies. I have two questions today…
#1: The first is how much is too much to spend on invitations and coordinating pieces? I have two quotes for letterpress invites/rsvp cards/and envelopes are totalling $1145 from pearl & marmalade or $1495 + ($300 custom design) from hello lucky. I wanted save the dates, direction cards, and place cards but all that totals out to ridiculous amounts of money. So, Im asking…is this average for letterpress?

#2: To save money Im thinking about making my own save the date magnets using the Cavallini bird stamp kit, but cant seem to find a save the date magnet site that has plain magnets where I could just order text printed on one side and do the stamp myself on the other side.

Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks!!!

I don’t know if anyone’s asked this yet, but what is the etiquette for tipping vendors? Who should we tip? What is the usual percentage for gratuities?

Mimi, did you try the mercurio brothers site? http://www.mercuriobrothers.com. you design the invites and they do the printing. They have really reasonable prices. Though i love Hello lucky and all their stuff, I decided to save money and print my invites myself. I love letterpress invites though.

I did this for the holidays, but you can easily do it for your wedding. All I did was cut up a bunch of ribbon (in my case, yellow) and hung different sized silver ornaments at various lengths. Obviously you can do that with flower balls and other stuff. It’s so easy!

Sorry! I forgot to post my location. Im in New York City..specifically Brooklyn but Im open to any place in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

I thought doing it at a fondue restaurant in midtown would be great but they will be more than $70/pp so thats definitely out.

Any other unique ideas or locations would be really appreciated.
