Chocolate Covered Pretzels

January 3rd, 2007 @ 9:31 am by Mrs. Strawberry

I’ve decided to make chocolate covered pretzels for the out of town baskets and for treats for my bridesmaids to snack on for the big day. These would easily make great favors and can be done in your wedding colors like Bcap did. They’re super simple to make and can be done far in advance and kept in your freezer. Cheap and Easy. Just like me. Yeah. I said it. :)

From Cooks.com:

CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZELS

6 oz. coating chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips
Desired amount of pretzels for dipping
1 tbsp. shortening

Place chocolate in top of double boiler over hot, not boiling, water. Add shortening. Stir until mixture begins to melt. Remove from heat and stir until completely melted. Coatings dip best at 85 degrees. Dip each pretzel in coating. Remove with tongs and lay on baking sheets lined with waxed paper. Chill, uncovered, until coating is set. Stack and store in airtight containers. Makes 4 to 5 dozen.

Love it! I was thinking about doing these for favors like DRZWife, but not sure yet. :-) And I was just going to go out and buy–didn’t know it was so easy!

noo it’s not as easy at it looks!! make sure you have LOTS of room, have everything laid out and prepared, and most importantly, make sure the bowl of chocolate is wide enough…or it comes out ugly :( just a warning! but they do come out reeally yummy :) GOOD LUCK!

Question — how did you get these to freeze well? I made a test run 2 months ago (see a blog entry) and froze them. I test them once a month to see how they are doing, but the pretzel is getting kind of chewy…

Oooh I made these for friends and coworkers for Christmas! However it took me a REALLY LONG time to make because I didn’t have a rack to let the chocolate drip from the freshly dipped pretzels. How did you make them so neat? Did you just dip and remove and placed them on the sheet? I didn’t want mine looking so messy, with random strands of chocolate flying off.

It also looks cool if you drizzle it with white chocolate. I did that, and also put sprinkles on top to add a little color, but yours look great! =)

Help!! I’m getting married in July of 07 and love this idea. I did a trial run and they were great however the pretzels looked a little too thin….What type of brand/type of pretzels did you use?

Thanks
Cindy
