Come Hell Or High Water

January 3rd, 2007 @ 3:17 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

As a wedding coordinator, you have to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. One of my recent clients did just that at her recent December nuptials. There were problems to say the least! :)

Washington State was hit by some pretty nasty weather in the weeks leading up to the wedding, and thousands upon thousands of residents were without power for many days. Homes, businesses, and unfortunately churches were victims of the storm. The Bastyr Chapel, where they were to wed, was without heat and any kind of light on the big day. Now, the Bastyr is an amazingly beautiful and large church which is both good and bad. Good because despite the power being out, it still looked absolutely beautiful lit by candlelight. Lots and lots of candlelight. The bad part was that it was somewhat chilly inside such a large space. But with the excitement of the day… I don’t think anyone noticed!

But there’s more! The church wasn’t the only wedding venue affected by the storm. The reception venue was also closed due to the storm! They had to scramble to find a new venue with less than 24 hours notice! Fortunately, they were able to have their Indian feast after all at a location not too far from the church itself. Phew! And the food was delicious to boot!

After all was said and done, the wedding was beautiful and everyone had a great time. It really made me realize that the big picture is what is most important–getting married! :)

hi ms. strawberry! :) greetings from a fellow seattle-ite here.

I have a friend who is a friend of a friend (or something long like that) that is this nationally accredited wedding photographer based locally here, on your own turf! you should definitely check them out…sometimes I spend hours on their page just looking at all the detailed/candid/capturing-the-moment pictures….and I’m not even engaged!

I don’t know if you already have a photographer but either way, it’s definitely eye candy!

best of luck with you and your hubby,

Hey Susan,

Thank you for writing this touching article about our wedding. Indeed…despite all odds, everything turned out beautifully!

You handled the entire situation (and not just the day of the wedding) with a lot of grace and professionalism. Jeremy and I really appreciate your efforts as our wedding coordinator.

Thank you!

- Annjali
PS: We received the professional pictures of our wedding a few days ago. I can’t wait to share them with you. :)
