E-Save-the-Dates

January 3rd, 2007 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. Lime

Despite being a paper whore, I decided to cut out some paper for convenience’s sake, budgetary reasons, and because I am one lazy lime. Instead of printing and mailing stuff out, we are killing two birds with one stone by letting our OOT guests know our date/location and asking for their snail mail addresses at the same time - picture included for visual interest and to set the tone, too, of course. All they have to do is hit “reply.” Hopefully we won’t need to bug ‘em with repeated emails or phone calls. Honestly, if I had waited to get all our addresses together first, I never would have sent save-the-dates, period; just invitations [hopefully] early enough for out-of-towners to make plans in time.

We wrote a short intro paragraph in the email, then pasted the below:

After about 15 iterations over a week’s time, a few critiques courtesy of my designer bridesmaid, and some down-to-earth and simple advice from the other lime, I’m done!

I think this is a good and practical idea. We didn’t do save the dates, but if we had I think we would have done something similar for the convenience of it. Plus, I’m lazy too. :)

i know pretty much everyone does save the dates nowadays, but if you don’t have a lot of out of town guests, I don’t think they’re absolutely necessary. And although I certainly appreciate pretty paper products and homemade stds, e-save-the-dates would actually be the most convenient so I’d have the info on my computer - where most of us live nowadays. :)

I think this is a great idea. Most of our guests will know about our wedding to begin with through word of mouth, so I’m not so keen on sending out paper STDs. Will you let us know what kind of a response you get (like how many people send back their info?)

Mary, I used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to make the image, then I inserted it into an HTML email in Microsoft Outlook. Hope this helps.
