Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

On my list of things to do, I have “meet with florists.” I’m not really wanting to do this now or ever. :) See, I’m a very weak willed person, and I find it hard to stand my ground when it comes to sales people. I’ve been known to buy something in a store because I feel bad for just looking. Seriously.

So, while Mr. Kiwi definitely has to come with me to these meetings, I’m a little worried I may end up agreeing to centerpieces and altar arrangements when I don’t want (or need) them. To make myself stand a little stronger and present myself as an unmoveable bride-to-be, I’ve collected pictures of my “ideas.” And none of these pictures are centerpieces or altar arrangements. :) Without further ado, I think this is what I like (I apologize if any of these images are yours, in my early engagement haste, I forgot to record the people I got them from!)

I adore these flowers. This is about the color scheme I’m thinking for the bouquets.

I love the idea of roses and calla lilies - I’m thinking that mine can be a mix, and the MOH can have just calla lilies.

This bouquet is almost exactly what I want, but with the callas added.

As for the men in our party, I’m thinking along these lines. Still trying to add a little rustic charm.

Love the berries!

This one is cute, but may be a little too rustic for me.

flower5.jpg

I think this is a good mixture of classic and rustic.

For our flower girl, I’m thinking a wreath made of slightly reddish orange roses, and then a paper basket (like this one from Martha)

Filled with dried rose buds and petals like this:

So, it shouldn’t be too hard to get what I want, right?

I love your bouquets, especially #1 and #, but I agree callas would add something more to it. The second and third bouts look like corsages made by children.

Nancy, you didn’t ask if I had made those corsages! I did them with my feet, Actually, no, I have no idea where they came from, but those acorns look alarmingly like testicles.

I too love all your choices!! I think the first bouquet is my favorite though, swoooon!

I am still completely undecided on whether I want to (a) order some flowers wholesale online (b) drive to a flower market the day before the wedding or (c) have an actual florist….for just bouquets? or the whole thing? NO IDEA! But I’d love to hear how your meetings go because if people are nice about just bouquets that’s probably my smartest bet…hmmmm…..

When I visited florists they asked what I wanted - which did not include centerpieces. They did ask what I had in mind, I think so they could get a better idea of my overall vision, but none pushed me into having them do them instead of me. None even suggested it. I also had them quote pew decor, but told them up front I might not include them in my final request. Sure enough, I went my own route with those too. No one seemed to find this unusal and I did not get any pressure from them. I would be wary of florists who try to push you into things that you flat out tell them you don’t want.

The “berries” you mentioned in the bout is what my florist called “Coffee beans.” I believe they come in shades of orange, red, yellow and green. I used them in our bouts and in my bouquet. I got so many compliments on them, about how they really made our flowers stand out, etc. Now they are popular to use! If I did it all over again, I would definitely use them! I thought they were great!

I love the combo of roses and calla lillies, too…so much that they are my flowers. We are going with red roses and white calla lillies. My bouquet is a mix of the two, MOH will be a few of each, and BM will be a few lillies. FI’s bout is red rose and mini callas and all GM will be one mini calla.

P.S. Your colors are gorgeous! All of the flowers will look so vibrant. :)

My bouquet and the guys bouts had the hypernicum berries in a darker reddish color. I loved the little bit of texture it added to my monotone biedermeier style bouquet and the guys wanted to eat the berries off their bouts. But I loved them!
