Oooo! Our bed came in today! Woohoooo~ This is the first time I’m sleeping in my OWN queen bed. Yep yep. When I was growing up and in college and grad school I slept on a single. Now I was quite excited about this queen bed, but it presents itself a dilemma…
Because Mr. Peach and I won’t be living together until we get married, I have the bed to myself for the next two months or so… Sooooo what side do I sleep on?? The right? The left? Closer to the door? Closer to the window? I asked Mr. Peach if he has a preference and he answered that he didn’t, but he asked “Isn’t the man supposed to sleep closest to the door?” His reasoning, or rather one he had heard, was that the man sleeps closer to the door because if someone were to break into the house the man will be in a better position to protect the woman.
Which side of the bed are/will you and your spouse/sig-o be sleeping on? Was there a reason behind it?
I guess for now, I’ll spend some time experimenting. hahaha~
I sleep on the side that is harder to get into because I’m smaller and more agile. 
(Also because I generally go to bed before and get up after him - hello lazy!)
But we also will randomly switch sides for a night or two with no problems. Unless you have a history of being very particular about the position you sleep I wouldn’t worry to much about setting up habits you can’t break.
I always sleep on the left side of the bed. Originally he slept closer to the door, for the exact same reason you mentioned. After we moved it ended up the left side of the bed was closer to the door. We tried to switch sides and it resulted in about a week of one cranky couple. I switched back to the left side and we have been blissfully happy ever since.
My fiance & I have always naturally fallen into the position of myself sleeping closest to the door. It’s always been an unconcious decision, probably because she often goes to bed before me.
I sleep on the side that is closest to the door, since it is also closer to the alarm clock and I get up earlier.
I tend to sleep closer to the wall (away from the door) for exactly the reason you said. I’ve never heard of anybody else doing that though, my husband always laughed at my reasoning. =) Glad I’m not alone.
FH had *his* side of the bed before I met him, which was fine because my side of the bed = the entire bed. But the way our room is now, he sleeps on the side closest to the door.
I sleep on the side closest to the door, too. He sleeps on the side closest to the big old window over there. Not for a specific reasons other than that was how we slept before moving in. LUCKY Dog! You have a new bed! I am so jealous.
I sleep on the left side, but this was after switching a few times because my fiance can’t make up his mind! Everytime we rearranged the room, we’d switch. Now, I think we’re settled.
I sleep next to whatever side the lamp is on, because Bean thrashes around at night and has been known to knock it off onto the floor. 
i’m a side sleeper, and prefer to face away from the wall, so i end up on the left side (which is also closer to my alarm clock). i’ve never heard about the man sleeping closer to the door.
I sleep closest to the wall so I can stick my feet out and touch the wall when it gets too hot.
I was used to sleeping closer to the door for that very reason so I can jump out and run away if there was ever a break in in my apt. But then after we moved in together, fi insisted he sleep near the door for that very same reason…to protect me. Awww
my bf says he prefers the right side of the bed and i don’t care…i always just slept on the other side of him. we’ve slept on both sides so i don’t think anything’s set in stone yet
fi sleeps closest to the door, no matter how the bed is, or if we’re in a hotel, or even at someone else’s house. so long as the bed isn’t pushed up against the wall, i don’t mind being farthest from the door. i like him protecting me!
We switch, depending on the weather (I’m always cold, so I sleep close to the heater in winter and away from the A/C in summer).
Until he moves in, you should sleep in the middle of the bed
I sleep on the left side, away from the door, but only because the side by the door is also the side by his closet and he gets up much earlier so it makes sense. Miss Peach, I am jealous thet you have the entie bed to yourself though
My boyfriend and I talked about this the other day, actually. Apparently before he met me he always always always slept on the left side of his bed. But, once we met he switched to the right side. I’ve always slept on the left side of my bed, so I suppose it works out wonderfully.
