About Mrs. Blueberry

Night Owl/Early Riser

January 8th, 2007 @ 2:00 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

I’m somewhat of an early riser: my natural sleeptime is usually about 12 midnight until 8 am. You won’t find me awake with the birds, but I don’t sleep in, either–it makes me feel like I’ve wasted the best part of the day.

Mr. Blueberry, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. He can easily stay up until 5 or 6 am, then sleep into the afternoon (when he has to get up early for class, he’ll take a long afternoon nap). Doesn’t faze him a bit. It has happened before that while he was coming to bed he’d accidentally wake me up and, unable to fall back asleep, I would just get up for the day.

Those mild irritations aside, we had to consider our opposing sleep schedules while choosing a time of day for the wedding. Any morning/early afternoon ceremony would be out, since Mr. Blueberry wouldn’t be fully awake. And we couldn’t have a late evening ceremony since I’d be tuckered out by about halfway through the reception. So we settled upon half past six: Mr. Blueberry will be fully awake, and the wedding-related excitement and adrenaline should ensure I don’t crash before the reception’s over.

Do you and your FI have opposing sleep schedules? How does this factor into your wedding day plans?

no wedding plans yet, but we’re on a similar schedule too. i’m the early riser though i can stay up late. i sleep 8 hours and i’m done. him on the other hand is a late sleeper and if i let him sleep, we won’t do anything until late in the afternoon. needless to say waiting around is not my strong suit and i have been known to wake him up [usually because i'm hungry]. he doesn’t complain but i’m still nice about it and let him sleep until 11 or so.

Our sleep paterns are not totally compatable either. Although not as bad as yours, and only on non-work days. I like to wake up by 7/8am on the weekends, he likes to sleep in. I fall asleep by midnight, he’s up till 2 or 3 am sometimes (that’s during weekdays too). Not sure how to fix it, but there’s worst things to deal with. It shouldn’t effect the wedding, unless I pass out during the post party.

My fiance used to go to bed at like 3/4 am and get up late too. When he got a job teaching he had to change his sleep pattern and now is completely adjusted to waking up at 6:20am.
On weekends now too, the latest he’ll sleep is 10am.

our sleeping schedule is very similiar to yours, but we are having a early afternoon ceremony.. we’ll both be up very early.. we didn’t really think about how it would affect our sleeping habits, oh well.

Mr Orange is more disciplined about getting up in time. Otherwise, we both go to sleep around 11, 11:30. Hopefully we both could stay up till 1 AM since our wedding doesn’t start till 7:00 PM.

We’re both more night owls, lucky for us. However, our work schedules make us both get up early (although he an hour later than me), so we’re used to getting up early now.

All guests have to be off the grounds of our venue by 10 PM, though, so we had to move the ceremony up to late afternoon. We’ll be up in plenty of time, I’m sure, thanks to work regulating our schedules these past few years.

we’re both night owls but i’m more extreme. We had our venue until 2 am which worked out great with our owl tendencies.

My fiance and I have a similar schedule to yours except I am in bed between 11-12 and up about 6:15 for work. I have no idea how our schedules will work with the wedding because we’re getting married in Hawaii, but my fiance seems to think that he’s on Hawaii time and it’ll work just fine for him. We’ll see about that. :)

Miss Apple

Mr Apple and I are opposite when it comes to sleeping schedules. I can work well on 7 hours and am up early and in good moods. Him on the other hand can’t seem to stand waking up earlier than 1130am. He gets in from work around 2-3 so he won’t sleep unitl 5am. So his sleeping patterns are insane. He needs his coffee if I wake him up before 11am. I don’t think it will affect our wedding since we’re both good about prioritizing.

Our schedules are just like yours! But, we are having a morning wedding. My fiance has agreed to get up early, so we can have a wedding where we serve breakfast. :)

I’m a FT student, so my sleep schedule can be a bit odd (two days a week my first class is before 9am, the other days my first class starts after 4pm). While I sometimes stay up late for school, I’m not a night-owl for fun. FH, however, has always been a bit of a night-owl. And, since he currently works from 5pm to 5am, he really is.

As for how this will affect wedding plans, who knows. I won’t be in school by then (and not working yet) and FH will have a new job (but who knows what the hours will be) by then. Our reception ends at 9:30 (as required by the venue), and we were a little bummed about this, and considered doing an after-party. However, we realized that, since I will probably be rather tired by then, maybe the time after the reception and before I crash could be better used, if you know what I mean :)
