Post Party Photo Ops

January 8th, 2007 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Apple

I was skimming through a few knottie bios when I came upon this delightfully adorable bio by mizzouwedding. I really loved the little details she incorporated into her wedding - the locket of her grandfather, the spa bride slippers given by her sister, birthstone ring from her father, the French Quarter photos, and of course the groom’s king cake! I used to live in New Orleans and remember eating king cake as a child in school - I had so much fun feeding my fat baby face and trying to find the little plastic baby (the traditional trinket in the cake). Good times!

She also had these sweet photos of her and her husband post-party. I never really thought about having photos taken after the wedding. I guess I was just brainwashed into thinking that photos had to be taken before the wedding when your makeup is perfect, hair is perfect, and everything else is perfect. :) I do love these photos though - the photographer captures that it’s closing time and yet they’re still chatting away, the groom’s bowtie is undone, and he carries her off to their suite to end the night. It’s just very sweet.

Honestly, I think we will forego the traditional “exit” and stay to say goodbye to all of our guests, and gather all of our things. The other day I was just thinking about how we were going to do our “exit” with no rental limosine or car service. So after seeing mizzouwedding’s post party photos, I think it would be great for us to take some last minute photos of just Mr Apple and I winding down after a long and exciting day.

Have you done this or thought about doing post party photos?

Our professional photos ended at the end of the wedding. But we have some fun shots from friends afterwards. Our wedding was in nyc on the lower east side, and we all headed to a nearby bar afterwards (yes, me in big wedding dress and all). There are a couple cute pictures of us - in a bar, all dressed up, drinking beer. Very fun!

Her bio made me tear up, those are some wonderful photos. I love the idea of post party pictures and I can hear Semisonic’s “Closing Time” in my head :)

That is a great idea as we’re in the same boat as you (no rental limo/car), and we’ll definitely want to party until the end. Those photos are beautiful. I’ll have to see if my photog will stay late for that as well ;)

We had an afternoon wedding so our reception ended at 4pm. Instead of taking formal photographs between the ceremony and reception, we skipped cocktail hour, took 10 minutes to breeze through the family photos (minimal), and took our own portraits after everyone left.

We had to leave the site since there was another wedding coming in, so we drove to a nearby historic town (Alexandria, VA) and had our photographer follow us around for an hour.

It was definitely worth the ‘unwind’ time we had together, and our photographer truly captured the love we had for each other on the day (instead of stress or impatience that so many brides feel during their cocktail-hour portraits). Here’s some of the shots we got:

Soireelaura - Those pictures are beautiful, I love the vibrant colors and the simplicity of the b&w photos. I especially love the candid shot in the first photo. -)
