Pre-marital counseling seems to be a hot topic ‘round these parts lately. We went to our first session of six yesterday. The details of our class in short - offered through our church, run by a clinical psychologist who also works for the Veteran’s Administration and has his own private practice (not to mention a very good, approachable lecture and class-running style), and consisting of ten couples split into smaller groups of three to four couples each for more in-depth conversation and discussion.
After the class and doing our homework later in the day (which consisted of a very simplified version of The Five Love Languages quiz, an “Intimacy Needs” quiz, and a few other questions regarding expectations for the engagement period and marriage), we felt very warm, fuzzy, connected, and more sure of this than ever. “We’re really getting married…THIS year!” said Mr. Lime. Too cute. Yep, that’s your cue to gag.Har har to my subject line, I know. So the above was the first part of the subject. Now onto the second…
During a family trip to Scottsdale this past Christmas, my mother oh-so-generously offered to cover our hotel and airfare expenses as she 1) owns a few timeshares she can trade for almost anywhere in the world, 2) travels a ton for work and has lots of frequent flyer miles, and 3) was thinking of a good wedding gift but hadn’t yet. Thanks, Mom! Seriously, we are so grateful.
After much flipping through her book of resorts, TripAdvisor surfing, research on “cost-of-vacationing” in each locale, and research on average airfare costs, we have decided to go with the Ka’anapali Beach Club in Maui. From reviews found online as well as my past experiences at various timeshares around the world, the resort is geared more toward families. As a result, they tend not to be very romantic and on the no-frills side. No matter, we get an almost-free (we’re planning on providing our own activities, food, and spending money) vacation! Plus, the important thing is that we get to vacation as husband and wife in a beautiful place. As Mr. Lime said, “As long as we’re together, anywhere in the world will be romantic.” Gag away all!
Time for me to dream of beautiful Maui…
