Beehive

January 9th, 2007 @ 1:30 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • Dani wants to know what you think of honeymoon registries. Did you/would you use one or do you think it’s a little cheeky to ask your guests to pay for your honeymoon?
  • Grace is looking for a reputable place to get her e-ring and wedding bands fixed and resized.
  • Tea is helping the MOH plan the bachelorette party and the guest list is 26 people. Is that a lot? How many people are usually invited? And do you have recommendations on places to stay in the south lake tahoe area for that crowd? Is it ok to ask everyone to chip in for the rooms?
  • lilpetunia is looking for a brunch/lunch/tea venue for a bridal shower in NYC for 20 people. The only place she can come up with is Alice’s Teap Cup II on the UES. Any other ideas? What kind of budget should she be looking at?

A friend of mine has asked me for ideas for places for her bridal shower. It should be day time event ( brunch/lunch/tea) in NYC ( Manhattan only) for about 20 people. She didn’t have budget in mind since she didn’t really have any benchmark but should not be too expensive.

The only place I could think about was Alice’s Teacup II on UES.

Any Ideas ? What kind of budget should she be looking at ?

lilpetunia -
I think Alice’s Teacup would be cute..but I’m sure there are other options out there for the party as well. Check out the citysearch.com site for NYC and look up “brunch” locations - and check out the sites and visit some places to see if it’s the ambience, price, menu that you’re looking for!

hope this helps! :)

I’m doing an HM registry and am ALL for it. My fiance and I already live together so we have lots of stuff and what we want to do is travel :) We’re planning a month lunch south pacific/south asia vacation - so far all the family members we have told absolutely love the idea!

lilpetunia - have you looked into Lady Mendl’s at the Inn at Irving? http://www.innatirving.com/ Delicious sandwiches, great service, very pretty and sophisticated.

I think it is expensive - it was about $30 pp when I was last there about 1 1/2 years ago.

Regarding the honeymoon registry–if the place you register takes a cut of the gift, I would not do it. It just doesn’t make any sense to give a website 8% of your money for making it “polite” to ask for money instead of gifts. Just don’t register and let people figure out you’d like money. Or return gifts.

However, if the only requirement is that you book with their travel agency (and they don’t take a % of your gift), it might not be a bad idea.

DANI - I think the HM gift registry is fantastic, but personally, I doubt we’d do it even if we are huge travel fans.. Most of our guests like to give money anyway so i don’t really think it matters too much.

Tea - some parties are small and some are large, it all depends on the bride i guess.. i’ll probably have about 15 at my shower.

Tea–I think 26 sounds like a ton of people for a bachelorette party. I’ve never been to one with more than 20, and even that felt like a lot. But that aside, why don’t you look into renting a house in South Lake Tahoe? Once you split the cost (which I don’t think is unreasonable) it should work out to cheaper than getting hotel rooms for everyone. Plus you can get your own hot tub…

Is the bride and her father (or whoever is walking her down) the only ones that are supposed to walk over the aisle runner when the ceremony starts? Is the runner rolled out just before the bride walks down or can other people walk on it too? I’m planning to decorate my aisle runner and have rose petals along the edges but how is that possible if the runner is supposed to be rolled out just before i walk out? Is that only a “myth”?
I’m planning to close it off so that the GUESTS don’t walk all over it but is it ok for my bridal party to walk on it?

Thanks amf. Can I ask which website you are using for your registry?

Try out Wild Lily Tea Room down around Chelsea. http://www.wildlilytearoom.com/ We hosted a shower there for one of my bridesmaids. Its a small shop, so they closed the whole place down for us — I think we were about 20 girls in total. The prices are fairly reasonable too.

Hi lilpetunia- I have 3 suggestions for your bridal shower. The first one is DIP-its this great fondue place (they have other yummy food besides cheese and chocolate fondues) in Murray Hill. They have an upstairs section which I’m sure you can reserve for your party. My other suggestion is KITCHEN 22. They have a price-fix menu everyday-last time I went it was only $25 for a delicious appetizer, entree and dessert. Its a very cute and cozy little place on 22nd b/w Bway and Park S.
My last suggestion is Iguana-its this hip, trendy Mexican restaurant on 54th Street. Not only do they offer a price-fix dinner menu, but they also have a club downstairs so you girls can dance it up afterwards.
