About Mrs. Kiwi

My Gals

January 9th, 2007 @ 4:19 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Since we’re pretty much decided on a dark brown suit for Mr. Kiwi and his brother, this leaves me with the question: “What will my wedding party girls wear?” I’ve decided on an ivory dress for myself, hopefully with gold embroidery - two of our main colors. As previously noted, our colors are: gold, ivory, rust and a deep red (not wine).

Now, I’m having only a flower girl and Mr. Kiwi’s sister Lena as my matron of honor. I’ve previously arranged with the MOB and the MOG to wear gold, so that is set. And while I’m not really versed in flower girl attire, I’m almost sure I can see her in an ivory dress with a gold sash.

I’ve been planning on carrying reddish flowers, and was also planning on having my MOH carry some as well. This makes me wonder what color dress she should wear. If she’s having red/rust flowers, should she wear a different color like this gold Jim Hjelm dress? Or if I choose a dress in this rust color below, what color flowers in our scheme can we use? Would it be wrong to use reddish color flowers?

As you can tell, this is stressing me out.

Which color bridesmaid dress and flowers should I go with?

Finally, if I choose a rust colored MOH dress, do the men wear rust ties (the same thing for the gold)?

i just thought that the gold dresses look close to a creamy ivory and thought it won’t allow you to stand out as much…
but you should pick whichever color you like the best! ;)

Good point, KP!

Depends on formality. I think colored ties for the men is more casual, and neutral ties are more formal.

have you asked lena what she would like to wear?

Miss Kiwi says:

HM, Lena said it’s all up to me. :( Which really doesn’t help! She has NO opinion at all.

What about a brown dress with ivory or gold sash and red flowers? Not to add to your decision list…

do the rust, the gold dress will be too close to yours and u have to be the center of attention! and u can have the men in maybe a medium brown or tan suit ?

I picked the gold dress because I personally like to see color in flowers rather than a dress. That’s just the simplistic me. I think having a lighter backdrop for colorful flowers looks better than a dark backdrop for color-”less” flowers. Haha, does that make sense? And even with a gold dress, I think it’s fine for the GM to wear a rust colored tie. A cream bout will stand out better if they happen to wear a dark suit. Wearing a light colored tie might be a bit…flashy, I’m not sure if that’s what you’re going for.

although the gold dress is very pretty, it might clash w/your own wedding dress…its your special day so you should be the center of attention.

which ever color dress you choose, the flowers should not be the same color as they will blend into the dress in photos. That particular dress looks like a very light shade of gold and might blend with your dress as several others said. both dresses are gorgeous!

You’re the bride; you’ll stand out no matter what you choose!

I like the gold dress with red flowers - I like color in flowers against a lighter backdrop, too. It makes the flowers pop. Plus, that brown sash will definitely make the maids’ dresses unique (i.e., you’ll stand out) and still work with your color scheme.

I’ve seen lots of pictures of brides with ivory-wearing maids and to me it looks so classic. Throw in some beautiful, bright flowers and, wow!

Miss Kiwi says:

Thanks for all the votes everyone, I always wanted that rust color! Anyway, I guess we’ll see what happens when Lena and I finally get going with this.

Soon to bee: the designer is Jim Hjelm, his dresses are amazing!
