Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Too Funky?

January 9th, 2007 @ 6:36 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Ladies (and gents) I have my glasses. I finally went and got myself some new guys. The odd thing is, not one person has mentioned them. Of course, my slightly low self esteem leads me to think (obsess) this is because people were well-bred and decided to take the “if you’ve nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all” route. I’m so obsessing about this that I decided to post myself in all of my bespectacled glory, both in the before and the after glasses.

Now, let me say that I LOVE my new glasses, but I wonder if I can pull the funky, thicker frames off. I love how my face looks a tad less fat, but maybe that’s just me. I don’t want to be sporting glasses that make Kareem Abdul-Jabar’s basketball goggles look small. :)

So, what do you think?

This is the before shot (wearing my gold Mickey Mouse ears):

And these are the new guys:

And this here is Woofie and I:

Now, do they look bad? Are they too funky to wear for the wedding?

They’re cute! They are very complementary and flattering to the shape of your face. What matters most is that you are comfortable in them! :)

I think they’re really fun, but I am having trouble picturing them with a wedding dress, per se. Of course, glasses are expensive, so it’s not as though I would cancel getting a pair just for a wedding….but since it’s a good idea to have a backup pair anyhow, maybe you might want to keep an eye out for sales?

(Just my honest two cents–what really matters is what you like!)

Arg, I meant “counsel” not “cancel”.

The glasses look great on you–funky and very cool. But I wonder how a thick black frame would look with a white/ivory dress. I don’t think you’re going to know for sure until you’ve chosen the rest of your look.

I think they’re CUTE!
But you’d have to be careful… the pictures don’t all come out with a glare.

I think they are great! Where did you get them, who are they by? We have similar face shapes and Im shopping for new glasses!

I saw the first pic, without reading the before note and thought, uh oh, I cant comment, I don’t like those. ; )

Good choice!

They’re super cute! In fact I have some that are very similar. Try them with your dress and see how you feel.
The most important thing is that you feel like you and feel comfortable! Most importantly, make sure you can see!!!

PS, Woofie is just ridiculously cute! It’s a dachshund thing!

i like them!

but I’m not really able to visualize them with a traditional, white wedding dress. Maybe something funkier, and retro to go with the cute glasses!

love ur new glasses as compare to the old one. but like some others, i do have a lil problem imagining how it’ll match a wedding gown, unless ur talking about wearing an ultra sleek silky ivory pant suit a la angelina jolie for a wedding gown.

maybe u can look out for a cheaper back up pair of horn-rimmed glasses. i think it’ll frame and contour ur face better, and more feminine too, if thats the direction ur looking at.

otherwise, by all means! its ur BIG DAY after all, u can have it any way u like, so long as the things that u wear make u feel CONFIDENT, most importantly. when ur confident, u are beautiful :)

Thanks guys! I really appreciate all your honest replies!! As for my first glasses, I couldn’t hate them more. They really didn’t do anything good for me!

I got them from Lens Crafters, they are Donna Karan and also come in a tortoise shell pattern. What you guys can’t see? Inside the frame there is a cool black and grey animal print.. May be my favorite part!

Also, I don’t think I can see these with the “big day” dress, either. Oh well, too bad! Shopping for more glasses? Hm.. Let me think… :P

Again, thanks, everyone!

They’re nice, but make a very loud statement, maybe competing with the dress? Maybe wear them at the reception but not at the ceremony or in all the posed and formal pictures?

Woofie is awesome!

Look on ebay or some vintage sites for some glasses with a little bling on them! That might be fun! But I think you might look back at your wedding pictures and think, “What was I thinking?” I think they look great on you and are perfect for every day. But not for the “big day.”

Would look OK with a modern/funky/retro gown…. not a romantic or uber-feminine gown.

they look great, but i’m not sure they’ll go with a wedding dress. i’d look into those rimless glasses. i know it sounds weird, but they look good on my friends who wear them and they’ll be less of a statement on your big day.

I have eye glasses very similar and I love them on you ¢¢â€š¬” I think because they are ¢¢â€š¬…”different¢¢â€š¬? it takes people a while to adjust and then they comment ¢¢â€š¬” no one made any comments on mine for months and then someone said something and everyone else was like ¢¢â€š¬…”yeah those are so cool¢¢â€š¬?. huh.

I too am looking for wedding glasses and I am thinking about a pair of these eyephorics that are rimless and then you can choose the colors of the nose piece, hinges and ear pieces. My mom has a pair in purple and they are so awesome b/c the color / funky part is on the side of the head ¢¢â€š¬” still fun but more conservative when someone looks at you head on¢¢â€š¬¦ they come in all frame shapes and many colors¢¢â€š¬¦

http://www.italee.com/25/25main.html

most of all ¢¢â€š¬” it is your day and you should do what makes you feel the most comfortable and most like yourself

Those are the cutest frames I’ve seen. Literally. But then again I don’t wear glasses *yet* so I’m not sure if that means much.
I say if YOU like them, wear them!

i think it would be really cute with your hair up and maybe a funky up do!!!

to me you’re cute w/ and w/o the frames so you can’t go wrong girl! if you love them then that is ALL that matters in the end. :)
