Dress Arriving Soon!

January 10th, 2007 @ 12:01 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

Since I referenced my wedding dress purchase yesterday, I wanted to just post a quick dress update now!

When I was on the phone with Kleinfeld’s, I figured I might as well check in on how my dress was doing, even though they originally estimated it would be ready in April. Since I ordered it absurdly early (cough, FIFTEEN MONTHS, cough), I hadn’t heard anything from them in a loooong time and just wanted to make sure it was still coming. I was expecting an answer along the lines of “yes, your order has been placed, it’s in the computer” - but no! Turns out my dress is scheduled to be in… second week of February!!! :-D

Even with contracts signed and deposits made, I’ve got to say that the idea that I could actually be wearing my dress in a month boggles my mind! I guess this whole “wedding” thing is really happening, eh? :-D

What have your “I’m really getting married!” wake-up calls been?

we’re getting married in mid-May and planning a wedding from out of town. for a long time, I kept telling myself: “we’ll finalize the details when we go home over the new year’s.” Well, new year’s came and went and final details were sorted out! now almost everything is booked and oh did I mention - the wedding band came, registry items are starting to be fulfilled, and boy - the invitations are set to print soon too! funny how fast things can happen all at once!

Congratulations! My dress is here but I am afraid to go visit it. We can go get our marriage lisence next week. That’s freaking me out.

The dress was a big wakeup call, also that I am scheduling my final appointments with vendors. The flower one is next week!

My first big “IT’s HAPPENING” moment was a few weeks before Christmas. My MOH and I went for my first hair trial, and when my hairdresser put on the tiara and veil, it really hit me for the first time.

The dress didn’t really do it for me because that was the first thing I did after getting engaged, so I was still in awe at the time.

Well, since there’s no dress yet, I did get a feeling of, “Wow, we’re getting married” but it was when we visited our venue last weekend during another reception. That was when I was like, “Oh my gosh, I have so much to do.” Now it’s not so much excitement as it is panic. :)

It didn’t hit us until 2 weeks before the wedding. We were going to Seattle in November and we discussed not changing my name until after the trip so there was no hassles at the airport. He said, “but then you’ll be an Alexander.” We both looked at each other and said, “AWWWEEE we’re getting mar-ried!!!!”

this is not so happy, but it really moved me. fi’s grandfather passed away, and the rabbi wanted to talk to the family about the services. he started picking out fi’s mother and aunts and moving them into another room. fmil turned to the rabbi, pointed to me, and said, “she’s family, too.”

When I was sitting in a ready-room in the ER, with a week to go before the wedding, because I was Not OK and this couldn’t be happening a week before my wedding.
I managed to rasp out my vows six weeks later. I think my dad & DH had more nerves than me. When asked why I could be so calm, I informed them that I already knew what had gone wrong (my health), so I didn’t need to worry.
