Open Question: Ring Resizing

January 10th, 2007 @ 2:30 pm by Open Question

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I are high school sweethearts and we have been together for over 8 years now. :-) For our one year anniversary we both (without each other’s knowledge) bought each other rings with whatever money that was available to us at that age. So they aren’t the best rings - simple white gold rings.

Everyday after that we wore those rings and they mean a lot to us. So we decided that instead of buying new wedding rings, we would just get them cleaned and fixed up. My ring had two tiny diamonds in it, but one of them fell out and his ring is too small now. My engagement ring is also a tad too big and I would like to get it resized. I was wondering if anyone knew of a reputable jeweler in NYC that would do a good job. I know some jewelers won’t resize something that isn’t theirs, and I dont want to entrust my rings with someone who I am unsure about.

Thanks so much!

Grace

Try Golda Jewelers at 29 West 47th Street. Ask for Alex.

Ken Coban at Two Tone Jewelry in the Diamond District is super friendly and very nice to work with. He resized my e-ring even though it had been bought elsewhere, plus he let me watch as it was resized. The store is at 47 W. 47th St (he’s at the first counter to the right as soon as you step into the door) and the number is 212-840-1326.

On Elizabeth Street (between Bayard and Canal) in Chinatown across from the Police Precint there is a jewelry store called Edcora. There is a woman there named Ellen who is extremely helpful and friendly. She is honest about her prices and what she can/can’t do. If you’re in the neighborhood you may want to give her a shot.

There is a jewelry store on Canal St in Chinatown. I believe the name of the store is “Good luck” something…ask for Albert. He is the owner of the place. My sister have been going to him for years and I recently started going to him. He is very honest on what he can/can’t do as well. I wanted to resize a ring my bf gave me when we first started going out and he was very upfront about it. Good luck!
