Speak’s Letterpress

January 11th, 2007 @ 1:26 pm by Mrs. Lily

When I found out that Emily at EMPrint planned to have her rollers cleaned during the month of January, I frantically began searching for other companies to letterpress our wedding invitations. Miss Plum blogged very favorably about Speak’s Letterpress so I immediately contacted them. Sean was great to talk to and incredibly helpful. He got a quote to us quickly and was willing to work within the quick turnaround time I requested. Here is a sample of his work:

Speak's Letterpress : wedding invitations new york Z708957 speaks

Unfortunately, he didn’t have the envelope linings we wanted in stock and couldn’t get paper samples to us quickly, so in the end we chose not to use him. I don’t think this reflects negatively on Speak’s Letterpress so much as my poor time management skills!

Which letterpress company are you using?

I contacted both White Aisle and Speaks Letterpress. Rebecca from White Aistle had proofs and quotes ready before Speaks wrote back to my original email. Because of the hard work Rebecca put into my so quickly and efficient, I immediately felt more loyal to her, so I told Speaks that I found someone else. He was very nice about it.

I won’t be receiving my white aisle letterpressed invites until next month, but I love working with Rebecca.

after reading about parklife press on weddingbee, I went with Travis. He’s been absolutely amazing to work with despite some last minute and desperate changes and my neurotic compulsiveness! I’d highly recommend Travis and Parklife Press!

I second the recommendation on Travis and Parklife Press. He’s so easy to work with, very communicative and friendly :-)

I’m using speak’s letterpress and he has been very quick to respond to all of his emails and showing me invitation designs. I love the invitation design I decided to go with and I’m so happy that I went with speak’s! The only downside is that he requires a deposit before he does any design work for you but I think it was really worth it in the end because his overall prices are much lower than the other quotes I received from printers and I love his designs!

If I can swing the costs, I  Tara (TAHra) at Ephemera custom letterpress. Tara is extrememly helpful and has great design (and of course will work with you for your own custom design). Check out her website–did I mention her costs are the best I’ve found?

I used Hello!Lucky but I ordered the invites through a retailer in NJ. I love their vintage looking invites. Their work is frequently featured in MS Weddings and InStyle mag.

We went with Haute Papier.

The woman who owns it actually did all of the work on our invites. She just finished them and they are gorgeous. She works with you to do all of the design work and makes sure you are getting everything you want through the whole process.

Also, she was great about working within our budget, which was kind of small.

I think her website is being redesigned at the moment, but if you email her, she is really fast about getting back to you.

Good luck!

Check out Bella Figura. I got samples and they are gorgeous! Their imprint is nice and deep and their paper feels very luxurious. I also think their prices are very reasonable for the quality of work. Bella Figura has also gotten rave reviews on the NYC Knot board.

Speak’s Letterpress did an absolutely fantastic job on our wedding invitations, all the way through the entire process including custom design. Very attentive and quick-replying to emails, something which meant a great deal to us. The quality of Sean’s work was unparalleled. My husband and I were so pleased with the work of Speak’s Letterpress that we went back to Sean after our wedding and had him create some absolutely beautiful thank-you cards as well. Amazing value, quality, and professionalism for the money at Speak’s. HIGHLY recommended!

Hi Laura: I just heard from Sean, and he’s taking some time off because of health issues, so maybe that is why you haven’t heard from him. He is usually very quick to reply.

I found a small company just outside Kansas City that I used for a business card job. Very nice Quality by the way. He also had a nice handful of wedding invitations in his portfolio of work. He said he designed a few and also printed some that were designed by the client.
the place is called It’s Fancy Letterpress Studio. http://www.itsfancy.com

He works out of a studio in his garage and from start to delivery had my cards to me in under 3 weeks.
