About Beehive

Beehive

January 12th, 2007 @ 1:42 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • pandakim is planning on getting married in Queens and/or LI (Nassau County) and is looking for NYC wedding planner referrals. Is it unrealistic to think she can pull off a wedding by Sept/Oct this year?
  • LK asks the DIY brides out there - are bone folders really worth it? If not, what have you used to make sure you get crisp creases?
  • Piggy is looking for a So Cal photographer who will travel to Santa Barbara for her September wedding. Her budget is $3000 - any suggestions?
  • newly_engaged wants to know if everyone numbered their rsvp cards to coordinate with their guestlist. Her FI thinks it’s unnecessary, but she’s afraid it’ll become a bigger issue to tackle later down the line if they don’t.

hey panda! i did my nyc wedding in 6, and i think i could have done it in less. i used in any event as my planners which charge $2500 for day of. there are lots of great nyc planners that i coud refer you to, but you could prolly find ones that charge less out in li. are you looking for full coordination or day of?

You may want to try Aimee of http://www.perfectweddingplanner.com

Their services came compliments of the venue that I booked but I find that their help and input is definitely making this whole experience a lot easier.

hey panda -
i think it may sound tight, but it is definitely do-able.
a wedding planner may be able to help you out a lot if you have the budget for one. if you don’t have the budget for one, i would def. rec. that you get a day-of coordinator and ask your friends/BMs to help you w/ the wedding planning process..or if you have any friends that dabble w/ wedding coordinating/planning.

definitely try to book you venue and go looking at dresses asap. if you’re thinking about getting married in Queens/LI, definitely check out this website:
http://www.weddingsitesandservices.com/
(which is the website of the magazine)

Also, try to think of color schemes you would want for your fall wedding.

i have a bone folder and i have no idea how it works. fortunately, i haven’t done much that requires folding. i try to avoid it. :)

I used a butter knife to do my folds. The “blade” gave me enough of a light score and the back handle of the knife worked really well on cardstock for folding when we make our pocketfolds.

LK -
great timing for this post! i was just using my bone folder last night..although i know i didn’t pay the price listed on the link … I think they worth it for creating creases and making crisp folds on paper/cardstock.
i usually take a ruler and line it up to where i want the crease/fold and take the point side of the bone folder and slightly score the paper along the ruler, then i pinch it at 3 points along the scored line and use the nailbed of my thumb to completely fold the paper and/or use the bone folder..

i used to use my x-acto knife..just like above..but i put very light light pressure on the knife so i don’t cut the paper in half…but i like working w/ the bone folder better~

lk, i just just a ruler to make my crisp folds. works just as nicely and quite cheaply. and yes, i do scoff at martha while i’m folding. i’m lame like that.

I’m looking for a photographer based in So Cal for my september wedding. Our budget is up to $3000. I prefer someone who is based in Orange County and willing to travel to Santa Barbara where my wedding will be at. Please advise..thanks!

you can use a ruler, butter knife, dull letter opener….lots of things!

i have a beehive question!

did everyone number their rsvp cards to coordinate with their guestlist? my fiance thinks it unnecessary, but i’m wondering if it’ll become a bigger issue to tackle later down the line if we don’t.

Newly_Engaged:
I think numbering rsvp cards is very helpful..
just in case someone has horrible handwriting and to keep track of who hasn’t replied back yet…you can just put the rsvp cards in numerical order…i think it makes things more easier and it shouldn’t take a lot of time to number the cards (tiny numbers in the back lower corner)..unless you have a very large wedding~ ;)

panda- i dont think it’s unrealistic at all! although i did have the same concern (engaged in nov 06, getting married may 07), everyone on weddingbee reassured me that i’d be fine and they were right!

not to say it’s easy and i really know what i’m doing but so far so good! i actually just booked my DOC today and i’ve read great reviews about her! she’s based out of BK but has done many LI weddings. you can tell her sonia sent you!

I did number my RSVPs and it came in handy once–but if I HADN’T numbered them, it would have been a disaster for us. We got a blank RSVP. That’s right. BLANK. No name, no nothing.

I used invisible ink, as was recommended here so it didn’t affect the design at all.

lk - instead of a bone folder, i bought a small rotary scoring blade. it worked great to give me crisp folds onmy DIY wedding programs.
