About Reader Buzz

Mrs. Bee here.

I find that one of the most popular topics on wedding forums, is favors. Miss Kiwi even asked how important favors were to you in her blog today.

As a guest (of 8 weddings last year!), I can say that favors do not matter to me in the least. Sure they’re nice, and definitely appreciated, but it wouldn’t matter - to me anyway - whether or not there were any favors at all. If you’re on a budget, this is definitely one area that I would cut back on because most guests probably wouldn’t even notice. But as a bride, I also understand wanting to give each of your guests a token of appreciation for joining in celebrating your big day.

So let’s find out your take on favors once and for all!

I think donation favors are great and I was planning to do them, but (as stated earlier) my FH really wanted to do the CD. I don’t consider a CD a gift (since it is all music we like), so I put it under “other.” FH is a musician, so he loves music. Of course, since he goes on tour all next month, I will be the one tracking down the songs, burning and printing the CDs, etc. Funny how that happens.

We’re getting married outdoors so we’re doing paper fans & parasols from Oriental Trading. They’re pretty cheap and practical if it’s hot. If we weren’t going to be outdoors, I ‘d cut the favors all together.

my favorite wedding favor is the thank you card with a picture taken w/ the bride & groom given out @ the end of the nite. it’s inexpensive, sentimental, and practical.

Through Whirled Events, I consult with a lot of brides on favors, and one of the things I always recommend is selecting a favor that either (A) represents their relationship with one another, or (B) represents their relationship with their guests. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate…some of my favorite favors are handwritten notes from the bride and groom to their guests, presented in a unique way. Just remember to keep it personal - Jordan almonds don’t really say anything to your guests.
