About Mrs. Peach

I was never into tanning. Even if it was the “in” thing, I preferred my pale skin. And never in my dreams did I think I’d consider getting a fake tan. Especially back in the day when the only option for fake baking was a tanning bed - horribly unhealthy. However, these days I look at pictures of myself and think, “Dang, I’m so freakin pale!” Especially against my very bright white dress. I was talking to one of my BMs about how pale I was, when she told me that she once got an airbrush tan that looked natural and wasn’t that expensive.

Wow… what technology can do these days. I first heard about airbrush tanning a few months ago when I was watching TV, and they showed Eva Longoria getting an airbrush tan. (well, they didn’t really “show” everything, but yeah). I was like, no wonder that girl has such glowy skin all the time! And then I became skeptical of all of Hollywood and their glowy skin. But I thought airbrushing didn’t go beyond the Hollywood scene, until I heard it from one of my BMs.

So as the day grows closer, I’ve been thinking… should I give it a try? I was reading a cnn article about how beyond a healthy looking glow, some airbrush tanning can even add muscle definition! Isn’t that crazy?

Are any of you going to tan in one form or another - natural out in the sun, tanning bed, airbrush tan, etc. for your wedding? For those of you who have tried these methods, how satisfied were you with their results? What’s the average price and how long does it last?

I know there will be lots of you who’ll say “embrace your lovely self, including your pale skin!” Mr. Peach is actually very against anything unnatural even if he admits that I am a bit pale. He says he loves me for who I am and wouldn’t want it any other way. Butttt maybe if I do just a weeeeee light tan, it could add some color (and maybe some finely toned arms)! ahahaha~ I dunno! I probably will chicken out and never do it. Plus, isn’t it weird to stand naked in a booth or in front of a person while they spray ya down?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! A light touch of bronzer on the face (and maybe cleavage if you like) but that’s it.

#1 consideration: What fiance prefers.

For me, this has nothing to do with being a proud of one’s race/color, but just being oneself. If you wouldn’t ordinarily have a fake bake, why document it in your wedding photos for all time? How silly and out-dated those 1980s deep tans look. Plus I think it’s pretty easy for a fake bake to look orange and really bad.

I don’t think you have to stand nekkid… maybe you can wear a bikini, or something. Just as long as you don’t have horrible tan lines! I’ve seen some pictures with BMs having horrible tan lines, and I think I would go bridezilla about that.
I think it would make you look more beautiful in your “bright white” dress. Just a weeee bit of color, so you dont look like you’re wearing a full body dress. LOL

I’m a big fan of spray-on tanning… just because I’m VERY pale and I love the look of a slight glow. I always get “light” and do it a day before. The most important thing is to scrub and loofah big time beforehand. Mine usually lasts the week… and I’ve never been “splotchy” or orange. It’s around $30 here in LA.
Try it and see if you like the results… if you feel like it’s too dark or unnatural, it’s gone within a week and at least you tried!

Take a picture of yourself in your dress. Try the tanning way before your wedding, try on the dress, and see which you like better. You might decide it looks too fake/not like you, or you might love it. Best way to know is to try!

BTW, does the spray on tanner come off on clothes? I know the bronzers/at home tanners can come off a little bit. You might want to be careful of the dress.

i used to work in a tanning salon and have done my research on tanning methods. while i would never force anything i think/believe on anyone, i myself am a fan of the tanning bed because i have been known to suffer from seasonal depression (i live around chicago). being in the warm tanning bed with “sun” makes me feel a little better about myself and there are studies about how it really can improve someone’s mood.

all that being said, i encourage you to try the spray on tan. at our salon, you locked yourself in a room, stripped down, and went into a booth that sprayed the tanning solution on you. no one ever sees you! it’s important to cover your hair and not shower for 4 hours afterward. you could at least try it now and find out if you hate it. they only last about 4 showers. good luck!!

I am a firm believe in the au naturale, but must admit I went for a fake tan right before standing in a wedding too. It’s quick, and only about $25 for 3 times (though you might not need it that many times).

You are “naked’ but it’s neccessary so that you don’t get weird tan lines. Plus, the employees tell you exactly what to do so it’s fine!

I would recommend getting a tan about 3 days before the wedding so that you are not orange. =) I think it’s ok to do so that you look healthier!!!!

I’ve never tanned, and I’m fine with that most of the time. I did not tan for my September wedding, and now I wished I had! We are taking a delayed Honeymoon in May, and I will get some “sun” before that so that I don’t burn to a crisp the first day!

Miss Peach, Mr. Plumeria sounds exactly like Mr. Peach (which is why I am leaning heavily on not wearing false eyelashes. But we’ll see… he says he does understand that makeup is somewhat necessary for photos. But if he had his way I would be wearing sunscreen and no makeup at all!). We are so blessed to have guys that love us for who we are, aren’t we? :)

But, I totally understand why you’d want to try tanning. For a compromise of sorts, I recommend trying Aveeno’s Continous Radiance lotion — you apply it after you shower like regular lotion (it’s white with a mild scent), wash your hands, and it gradually adds a bit of warmth to your skin tone — very natural looking, no embarressment, and so subtle Mr. Peach is sure to not mind. :)

I’ve done airbrush tanning a couple of times and I love it — it looks totally natural and it’s more “controlled” than booth spray tanning because it’s applied by an actual person. In NYC it’s about $50 and lasts for a week. Like most people above, I say try it way before the wedding… you may just like it, and if you don’t, it’ll be gone well before your big day.

I have always been wary of spray tans because self tanner tends to turn me orange. One of my roommates is pretty pale, and when she got one for a wedding the spray tan turned her slightly orange. I suppose it depends on the undertones of your skin, but it never hurts to try!

I agree that you should give it a try now (with plenty of time- just in case).

I’m pretty pale, and my dark hair makes me look even paler. I do the spray tan for special occasions–including my wedding!

Try both the booth spray tan and the airbrush tan, they react differently. Wait to shower as long as you can, then once you do shower, the tan should look very natural and light (it can come off on your clothes in the time before the shower, so be careful). If it’s done right you should not look really tan, just healthy. I always get compliments after a spray tan, but no one can pin point exactly why. I just smile and say “thanks!”
