Beehive

January 16th, 2007 @ 4:12 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • k is looking for a free online tool where you can make monograms.
  • melodiouscarol just got engaged and has a $20k budget. She’s looking for a reception venue in Los Angeles for Sept 07 and is a young bride so let the advice flow!
  • stp812 wants to know if there’s any way to include one of her close girlfriends in the wedding, without her being a bridesmaid (she’s having a very small wedding). She’s heard of “honarary attendants” but isn’t sure if that’s appropriate. What do you think about that or how else she might include her girlfriend?
  • The MDBride is having her wedding studio portraits taken in NYC in October. Can you recommend places near Chinatown that are suitable for outdoor portraits other than Central Park or the Brooklyn Bridge? She’s looking for places that are preferably walking distance or a quick drive, and park locations.
  • Sarah is looking for picture spots in North Jersey/Bergen County, including indoor locations in case it rains.

stp812 - I am pretty close to my FI’s cousin and sister but I chose my BMs before I even met him so I’m having them do a reading at the ceremony.

stp812–besides a reading, you could invite her to be an usherette, to hand out programs at the beginning of the ceremony, maybe to sing or play a piece during the ceremony, or to man the guest book, help with cutting the cake, accept the gifts as people bring them in, etc. Or you could ask her how *she* would like to help you! Maybe she’s got a totally unique idea :-)

hi carol! are you looking for an indoor venue or an outdoor venue?

MDBride - City Hall and the west village are close by and have a lot of great picture taking spots. :)

MDBride,

There is a park across from Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall. Other options that aren’t too far away are South Street Seaport, the New York Stock Exchange, the bull statue on Broadway and Battery Park.

along the same lines of The MDBride, can anyone recommend places to take pictures in north jersey/bergen county? what about some indoor rainy day locations for pictures besides the reception hall (just in case it rains)?

melodiouscarol: check out the Duke’s restuarant in Malibu. You get an ocean view and for a restaurant in Malibu you get an affordable lunch. I would not recommend dinner as you won’t get the view and it’s twice as much. And it can easily accomodate 200 people.

I’m looking for pictures of couples in adirondack chairs…on the lawn, beach, etc. :-) If you have these or know of Knot bios, let me know, please!

I have a question about attendants: My FI’s best friend happens to be his sister’s ex and they did not break up on good terms. So it would be extremely awkward for him to be the best man. My FI has no other really close friends. I’ve suggested that he asks one of my guy friends or maybe even his dad. What do you guys think? Would either option be weird?

I have a question about water fountains. I’m helping my FSIL plan her wedding and she is looking for small water fountains as centerpieces for tables. She is having 300 guests so the fountains have to be affordable and not electric. Anyone know if these exist and if they do, where we can find them?

HELP!

We actually got engaged a few months ago but I haven’t even began to plan. We are living in SoCAL, BUT having our wedding in JERSEY! So it’s a bit hard to plan any wedding details. I NEED reception sites for a Fall wedding.. ANY ideas.. preferably - Central/South Jersey. If anyone could ease my stress level, you are my angel! Thank you!!

I have a question about tracking gifts received and thank you notes. Is there a system that you have found to be the most effcient?
Thanks

stp812-Does she know you well enough to make a toast? Also, if you staying overnight at a hotel the night before your wedding maybe she can be your official “last-night-as-a-single-woman” roomie that night (and help coordinate vendor arrivals to your room, bridesmaids, etc the next morning)?

marvil, if they aren’t electric how were you planning on having them run? if battery-powered is ok, try abcdistributing.com.

They’ve got these, http://www.abcdistributing.com/home/catalog/cat_item_pg.asp?P=638&G=364&Kwd=fountain&Item=411783-4FNN&Page=1, for $7.95 each.

joanne, there’s the crystal plaza in livingston, nj, which has the most amazing food AND service. (about 8 servers for a table of 10). there’s also the pines manor in edison, nj. Or the westin hotel in princeton, nj. All 3 are great. i’ve been to weddings at all 3. good luck.

hi joanne, what is your budget? does it have to be central or south? there’s a place called the manor in west orange that is absolutely gorgeous and a know of a lot of ppl that got married there. I’ve been to a HS reunion in pines manor in edison and its not very exclusive/private. there’s probably a good chance that another event could be occuring right across the hall from you. also i’m sure food for a wedding would be MUCH better than a HS reunion, but i didnt really like what they had to eat at the buffet.

good luck and hope it works out!

Depending on what types of things you like to do, a few places I could recommend would be Sea World, San Diego Wild Animal Park, and the San Diego Zoo. The Gaslamp Quarter as well as Old Town are also pretty popular. Hope some of these are of interest to you

Chrissie, Seriously? Please dont’ waste your honeymoon on Sad Diego. go to Hawaii. SD is more of a weekend getaway trip, no place for newlyweds. gross! If you do decide on SD, stay in La Jolla. In East Coast terms, it’s like going to Philly for a honeymoon. Gross.
