Scared to Hit the SEND Button

January 17th, 2007 @ 1:01 pm by Mrs. Emerald

So currently, I still have my bridesmaids dress order on hold with Netbride (see previous post). I need to finalize my color and send them an email with my decision. I was waiting until I received the fabric color swatches to arrive in the mail (figured I would save myself a trip to the boutique), before I proceeded with the order. Besides, I have 8 months, which is plenty of time!

I finally received the swatches, and of course they are tiny, literally less than a square inch! Regardless, I can tell that the Berry is too bright (almost fire engine red) and the Cranberry is too dark (almost maroon). The color I want is a deep, garnet red. So what’s a girl to do?!

I think I’ve come up with a solution, but I’m a bit scared to pull the trigger. The dress fabric is chiffon, which means that the outer layer is chiffon, and there is also an underlining layer (dunno what that is made of). What if I order the chiffon in Berry, and the underlining in Cranberry? My thought is that the darker inside layer will tone down the brightness of the bright red chiffon. Brilliant, no?

Unfortunately, I have not seen an actual dress that is made like this, which is why I’m hesitating. When I hold the 2 fabric swatches together, it gives me the color I am looking for, but it’s so small! I’m nervous it won’t look right. I should probably drive my ass to the store and hold 2 dresses together in each color to get a better idea, huh? Arghh, so much for saving myself a trip…

It is an additional $23 per dress to order them in 2 different colors. I would just eat the difference since I already told my girls to write me checks for $120 (cost of dress in single color). Should I just do it? Hit the Send button and be done with it? It’s annoying to have to think about every, single detail, haha.

(Berry vs Cranberry) Sorry, I’m sure you’re sick of seeing the same pic over and over…

I like your idea… but since they gave you such skimpy swatches, maybe it’s best to hold up the top and bottom layers against each other in the store to see how it looks. (You know how red fabric with black mesh on top can look sort of brown or purple…?) Flowers in varying shades of reds/berries you might tie it all together beautifully.

what are you wedding colors again?..i tried to skim through your previous posts to refresh my memory but couldn’t find out wedding colors…

i think you should just try to swing by the store again and hold up the two dresses and possibly take pictures as well…b/c i’m sure you’ll continue to think about it before you click the “send” button, so you’ll want to check them out again..
better to drive over & be safe than sorry, no? ;)

btw - the dress is cute!!

I agree with Iris and kp. I think it’s worth it to go to the store and have a better idea of what the dresses will turn out rather than to spend an additional $23 per dress worrying about how they will look. To me, the peace of mind is totally worth the time. And besides, you could talk to the people at the store and get their opinions about your plan.

I think that’s a very neat idea, and probably would look great. However…you should go to the store and make sure, or you’re going to be worrying about it until they arrive.

My daughter had a prom dress one year that had a black under slip/lining, and a bright pink sheer over it. It looked like a deep maroon. It was gorgeous! Go to the store and check it out first, though.
