Our First Wedding Gift…

January 18th, 2007 @ 3:32 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

Was just delivered by the UPS man!!!

I checked our registry online this morning, and noticed that someone had purchased the KitchenAid Mixer. I called my mom, assuming it was her and she was just as puzzled. Then to our surprise, it was delivered this morning!

The real puzzle was who was it from? There was no card in the package, so we called Williams & Sonoma to see if they could look it up. Good thing because they were able to tell us who sent it!

Have you received gifts with no idea where they came from? If so, how have you handled it?

Here it is…

That is so cool! I wish Mr. Kiwi allowed me to play with the gifts we already got. :(

The mixer is AWESOME! You got it in white?

actually…we looked online at our registry…and some of the gifts that were “purchased” were never delivered..or we never got them at the wedding..so we have a bunch of gifts that were listed as purchased on our registry..and we have n clue where they are at…

I’m so jealous. A KitchenAid mixer is literally the ONLY thing I want.

We actually received a gift from a couple that we didn’t know. Macy’s was kind enough to give us their mailing address. We promptly mailed them a letter stating the they must of gotten the wrong couple. Turns out there was another couple from MA getting married around the same time as us with my name. HOW confusing. They got the wrong couple and shopped off the wrong registry.

The couple was SUPER kind and let us keep the gift as a wedding gift. To this day, we’ve become excellent pen pals due to this little mixup.

I actually had the same problem as Mrs. G, except that TWO couples we didn’t know sent us gifts. We sent them a letter thanking them and explaining that we weren’t who they thought we were (I mean, one card said, “I had fun at your shower!”) and never heard from either of them! So, we kept the gifts! And, also like Mrs. G, the presents were bought at Macy’s. Strange.

So we CAN open the gifts before the wedding? My fiance and I live in the tiniest apartment and although we didn’t start getting the presents yet, I was worried about where we’ll be keeping the boxes!

yes, you can open the presents, and yes, we got it in white.

I can’t wait to start using it!

My only question is do we send the thank you now or after the wedding?

Send it now - it’ll let them know that you received it and that its working and all that jazz. :)

send the thank you now! because they bought and shipped right away, you don’t want them wondering if you ever received it.

Send the thank you ASAP. Also, it’ll save you from one more thank you to add after the wedding!

I ADORE my kitchen aid mixer! I have one in red. I got it from my mom when I was still in college and it made me feel like such a grown up! Ha!

That was the first gift we received from our registry too! I think wedding guests looove giving that mixer–they know you’ll have it on your counter for the rest of your life!

Good to know that people like giving that mixer…I added it to ours in Chrome! :-)
Congrats on your first gift!

Definetly mail the thank you card ASAP and if you got informals as part of your invitation packet, don’t use one that has your future name or inital or monogram until you’re actually married. Get a set of nice thank you cards that you can use until the actual wedding.

Actually, I thought the proper etiquette for presents before the wedding was to send the thank you card, but not use the item until after the wedding.

I finally bought my mixer last year, thinking it could be a long time before we got engaged & I could register for one. It’s one of the best investments ever!!

Yay on the mixer! I really want one too and I always feel awkward using my bf’s mom’s mixer. I feel like I’m invading her kitchen when I bake/cook there.

Most stores (Linens and Things and Williams Sonoma for SURE) have a database that tells you when and where your gift was purchased.
We had problems with this - I could write a whole post about our solutions.

If you ask stores, they can look up your registry and print it out. This is VERY important because when returning a gift, most stores guarantee that you as the bride and groom will receive the entire amount refunded, even if the gift is now 50% off. We had one store try to give us 12.00 back for a 60 dollar bedding gift.

I’ve learned to ALWAYS give a gift receipt with my name on it with any wedding gift
