Checkmarks Are My Friends

January 19th, 2007 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Lime

So that must mean I am getting more popular by the day! I have yet another thing checked off my list. Last night while standing on a sidewalk somewhere south of the 10 freeway in 30- to 40-degree cold (hey, it’s colder than our typical winter nights, don’t hate), during a moment stolen after meeting with a larger group of friends, I asked my remaining two bridesmaids to be a part of our day. After some non-characteristic squealing from my usually non-girly girls and a group hug (more to keep warm), my bridal party is all in for the ride!

How did I ask my other bridesmaid? Via AIM, no joke, as it’s our main method of communication even when on the same coast [both of us hate phones].

I do like making quirky cards suited for specific people and occasions, but the wedding planning is sapping away all that extra time and energy. Sorry, no cute DIY “Will you be…” cards here; just the above memory etched into our minds. The spontaniety of it beats anything I could have planned and makes it more memorable, in my opinion. Of course, that’s because I’m in the “asking simply is the most meaningful” camp.

How did you ask your bridal party to be a part of your day?

Haha! I’m in the same boat.. I actually asked one of my MOH’s over dinner because at the time in seemed convenient…as for my other MOH (my sister) and my cousin who’s a bridesmaid.. it was all over AIM baby!! Haha… nice and simple!

I asked my MOH over lunch, and she was so excited. She kept saying, “Are you serious?!?” Two of my other bridesmaids, I simply asked in person. My fourth one I don’t get to see very often, so I didn’t know if there would be a time to ask her in person. So, I sent her a cute (and free!) ecard, asking her to be my bridesmaid. Of course, everyone said yes!

I went a little crazy! I bought Iron on paper that you can stick in the printer and made t-shirts for them. On the front it said ” A girl can never have too many dresses in her closet…” On the back it said, “So, what’s one more?” Then it said Bridesmaid or Maid Of Honor then underneath it 7.21.07 NYC. I gave them to as many of my girls in person as I could. It was so much fun because they couldn’t understand whey they were getting a present (i wrapped them in little celophane bags). When they opened them they were so excited! It was a really fun way to do it. I agree, the in person ones are a lot of fun!!!

I asked my 2 sisters and cousins via cards in person. My friends thought that was all I was going to have. I went to Mexico with my 3 best friends and shocket them all by asking them to join the wedding party (with cards I gave them in person). The were super excited.

I’ll probably either just invite them all over for a dinner, and ask them, or go out to dinner, and ask them.

okay, i am glad i am not the only one who did this very casually. we only wanted family in the bridal party, so i just called my sister on her cell phone and asked her. her response? “sure, fine.”

I posted a picture of the ring on their myspace comment section. No lie. We’re also on separate coasts and aren’t partial to the phone, so it worked for us.

I typed out and printed out:

NAME,
Will you please be my Bridesmaid?
Love, Lisa
DATE

and then i took a picture of the printout and e-mailed to my friend. With the picture included a letter explaining why I’d be honored to have her be a part of my special day.

I’ve only picked 2 bridesmaids. Maybe that’ll be enough! ha~

I made replicas of our possible favors…origami boxes with our favorite candies inside…with a note that said “It would be *Sweet* if you could be my…”. Needless to say, it went over well with my girls. =)

Super casual. . . my MOH while we were driving somewhere (the train station I think), my grooms sister the night that we announced to her and FI’s parents (she saw the ring before them and was literally bouncing with excitment, his parents? oblivsious haha), my sister just assumed (she was right, but still), and my last one when she came to visit from the other coast I think while eating dinner? Can’t remember!

I just told my girlies that they’re going to be my bridesmaids and MOH. =D Well, they knew from years ago (since that’s what girls like to talk about).

This is why I love you. I hate those stupid “will you be” cards. Answer to your question: over dinner, via email, and by phone.
