Reader Buzz: Hiding the Crazy

January 19th, 2007 @ 6:26 pm by Reader Buzz

Mr. Bee was watching a rerun of Scrubs last night (it’s one of the few shows that we both really like). In the episode, Elliot had been on four dates with Paul, and asks Carla for some advice.

Elliot: Carla, you know how I’m…really crazy?
Carla: Sure, what’s up?
Elliot: It’s just getting so hard to hide the crazy from Paul.
Carla: Oh, I hear you, girl. I mean, Turk and I are engaged and it wasn’t until last week that I admitted the reason I don’t touch the seat when I go to the bathroom isn’t because of germs but because I’m afraid of toilet snakes.
Elliot: Aaaaand now so am I.

We all put our best foot forward when we first meet someone, and become more comfortable as time goes on. I told Mr. Bee that I was crazy on our second date, but he says I didn’t start to show it until about a month into the relationship. Even now I think he’s taken aback sometimes by how crazy I really am. :)

How long did it take for you to reveal your “crazies” to your SO? Are there some idiosyncracies you’ll always keep from him?

It took him a long time to realize that those cute little idiosyncrasies… were really just the crazies! I think it all finally came home to him after he met my family. One dinner with them made him realize - wow, they’re all insane!

We went into long distance almost immediately, so I tried my best to make him aware of the crazies within our first week together!
He now regularly calls me crazy, but apparently he sees some sort of charm in it.

My fiance and I were oddly comfortable with each other from the start. I don’t remember when I told him that the closet door had to be firmly closed before the light went out at night–because of closet monsters–but it had to be fairly early in our relationship.

Nope! He knows every single one–now whether that’s good or bad, I’m not so sure. :-P

I think my crazies are why he fell for me! I just really like weirdness. Plus he’s got a lot more crazies than me. When we moved into our new place he had to replace the toilet paper roll holder. Who thinks of this?

Very very quickly….we don’t hide things from each other. He knows all my craziness, as I know all of his.

Luckily, we’re pretty open people. He tells me I’m weird all the time. :-)

People have a hard time with the bathroom sitch. But thanks to a college apartment with a single bathroom, it didn’t take much time for me to grow tired of “holding it” or waiting until I went back to my place…and a little bit of IBS. I KNOW, TMI.

Anyway, we’re very comfortable with each other and certianly living with each other (again, with a single bathroom!), forces you closer in a shorter amount of time, I think!
