Centerpieces

January 20th, 2007 @ 4:48 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

Since I had a nearly unanimously positive reaction to the tissue paper flowers, I’ve decided to go ahead and use them for the wedding. Thank you so much everyone for the kind feedback! smiley507 I’ll make them a few at a time over the next four months–it’s a great DIY project since I don’t have to be in KC to work on them, unlike most of my other projects.

Last night I started experimenting with different centerpiece arrangements. Since my budget is pretty much shot, the only things I can afford to buy is one more type of vase. I bought “samples” of a couple different types, and would really appreciate feedback about which arrangement looks best.

**When you look at these, please visualize them with many, many more flowers in each vase, the tealights all lit, and blue “squished marbles” where appropriate**

Which is your favorite?

A:
(This was my original plan, and I have everything required for it already–I wouldn’t have to spend any extra money to use these. In this one, I’ll put the squished marbles in the clear vase. Also, I don’t have one of those long lighters, so the candles aren’t lit–but of course they will be at the wedding!)

B:
(This one is my favorite! But if I go with this, I’ll have to buy 7 more of the cylindrical vases, at $2.00 apiece. I’ll also put the squished marbles in the bottom of the floating candles vase. )

C:
(Similar, only with a small blue cylindrical vase. I’m just afraid that it’s a little bit less proportional looking.)

D:
(This one is sort of hard to see, and I apologize about that. But it is the roundish vase from “A” put into the floater bowl–for a much more uniform, monochromatic look. The only color in this one would be the squished marbles.)

E:
( All blue! That’s an unlit floating tealight in the big blue vase, which would of course be lit at the wedding smiley1011)

F:
(This is sort of the reverse of “A”)

very pretty. would maximize space b/w the tissue paper and the flame, ha ha. also tissue paper that is damp from H2O would be so sorry-looking after all that work!

I voted for D b/c I’m just not feeling the blue tall vases. But D is also lacking color… maybe the marbles will add more color, or maybe use blue colored floating candles instead of the white? Or float a few blue colored flowers with the white candles?

I agree with you - B is my favorite. It reminds me of an ikebana arrangement for some reason!

Thanks, Lixue! I got the smaller cylinder vases at Dollar Tree (aka Deals) for $1 and the larger ones at WalMart for less than $2 apiece.

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

i like all the ones where the vase is put in the bowl! the B,C, D look. mainly C though because i like the smaller vase and it adds more color to the centerpiece. you’re so thoughtful to have come up with SIX different ways to have your centerpiece! my only concern is having the paper flowers catch a flame from the candles! =)

I picked D but just thought of something else you might want to try… It may be too much, but my brain thinks it would look ok ;)
Can you fit a skinny blue vase inside the tall clear vase in D? You could put some squished marbles in around the blue vase then the flower in the blue vase.
Just a suggestion :)

Hi! Personally, I would alternate “B” & “D”. I like the blue vase, but if every table had one, it might be “too blue” and by putting blue marbles in the “D” setup, you can incorporate some blue, without overpowering. I also, like that it would also alternate tall & low centerpieces. AND you wouldn’t have to buy as many of the tall blue ones. :)

Great job Miss BB! I would only worry that B, C and D might catch on fire because of the paper.

Great ideas. Have you also thought about dyeing the water light blue in which the tea lights are floating? I’ve seen centerpieces in which this is done and it looks great!
