Engagement Story, Part II of II

January 21st, 2007 @ 1:27 pm by Mrs. Lime

Part I

WARNING: Long! Hence the bullet points. Bite-sized pieces are much easier to swallow, especially when pieces are sappy.

[Exposition - aka the only three hints I was allowed]
- We were going to someplace “local long-distance” for the weekend in celebration of my [sort of] milestone birthday.
- It involved doing something we had wanted to try for awhile, but the timing had always been off up to that point.
- I needed to pack one nice outfit and a swimsuit.

[Rising Action]
- The alarm clock goes off at an ungodly hour on Saturday morning.
- He makes sure I am all packed up (I tend to always forget something when packing).
- We head south on PCH (so confused but still hopeful. “He’s not really taking me to San Diego, is he?”)
- At a certain point, we head east toward the desert. “Vegas?” I guess. Wrong. I was right about the desert but have the wrong desert.
- We had headed out too early, so we stop and do some outlet shopping.
- I buy an orange silicone spatula for dirt cheap. It’s the little things that make me happy.
- We check in early to our resort and hit the pool and hot springs. Air temperature at this time: 115 degrees farenheit.
- Massage time at the spa! This is the “something we had wanted to try for awhile, but the timing had always been off up to that point,” in my mind.
- That’s not all, we have dinner reservations. We head to the room to shower and get ready for dinner.
- My normally no-to-low-maintenance man stresses because he forgot his dress shoes. That alone should tip me off. He rarely cares if he’s too casually dressed for anything.

[Climax]
- We are seated in a semi-private room and are the only ones seated there. I turn to put my purse down. When I look up, he’s down on bended knee.
- Cute, nervous speech.
- YES!
- He manages to do this with no one else noticing.
- This is the real “something we had wanted to try for awhile, but the timing had always been off up to that point.” As in getting engaged.

[Falling Action]
- Porterhouse for two is served on a 500-degree plate.
- Yummy wine.
- The waitress mistakenly contiues to call us Mr. and Mrs. Lime all throughout dinner, as all she saw was something on the all-important finger in the dimly lit room.

[Resolution/Conclusion]
- He corrects her, finally, telling her we got engaged earlier that day.
- Dessert on the house! Anything involving chocolate and the word “free” is fine by me.
- We completely forget it is my birthday.
- We blow out the single candle atop together.

Very cute.

Ok, so here’s the short version of mine. Fly up to Seattle for birthday weekend. Get to fancy hotel room. Rose petals and flowers everywhere. He pops the question. I say yes. And then I promptly run to the bathroom because I really really really needed to pee.

The end.

Weezer, too funny.

My short story: Friends of ours like climbing 4000 foot mountains - they want to climb all of them in NH. We’ve tagged along and wanted to kill ourselves each time. Love the view, hate the pain. So at the top of one, he says - we should do the 100 shortest mountains in NE. I laugh and say sure. Months later, he suggests going on the first. So off we go, he is super careful to bring the camera, b/c he claims he’s going to write a book about our mini-hikes. And he gets super upset that his cargo shorts loose a button (that’s the pocket the ring was to go into)

Mosquitos that day are HORRIBLE. I mean, swarming, biting, awful. I RUSH up the mountain, poor boy wanted a romantic stroll. We get to the top and enjoy the view of the river by the town we met at and he says “so you think you can do another 99 of these?” and I turn and start heading down the mountain and say “not if there are mosquitos like this, no” I hear him say, “hey, come back here…” and when I turn around he’s on one knee with ring in hand and says “what if it took a lifetime together to do?” I scream, say yes and we kiss and skip down the mountain.

Ok, not so short a story, but the details are important :)
