I really have no idea what it's going to end up looking like! Also, I picked Miss Bluebell for my name because I have blue eyes and I'm a loser like that.

Wedding Sandals

January 21st, 2007 @ 12:39 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

As I have mentioned before, I have been very, very picky in my wedding shoe decision making. I wanted the following elements:

1) Non-leather (vegan)
2) Pale gold (not regular gold!)
3) Little to no heel (I intend to walk on grass and not have my feet hurt)
4) Strappy (just personal preference)

Then, when I was trying to figure out what exactly that might look like in the end, I realized what I really wanted was fancy flip flops! I have ten million pairs and wear them exclusively during the warm-enough seasons, and love fancy dress up ones especially. So it just seemed a very “me” idea to wear flip flops to my own wedding!

But…

a) It’s hard to find really classy flip flops
b) Any that are classy are almost always leather
c) They sometimes have black or tan or brown bottoms, and aren’t exclusively gold
d) Most of the golds are GOLD gold, not PALE gold (see, I’m picky!)

I found a pair a few months ago at Ann Taylor Loft that, well…I liked. But there were sequins on the straps, and even though they were pretty small and exactly the same shade of (not pale) gold as the rest, they just seemed slightly flashier than I really wanted. And when I tried them on with my dress, they were just too dark gold (sort of the effect of wearing brown shoes with a wedding dress). So back to the drawing board.

Then, a few weeks ago, I realized what exactly it was that I had in my head as the ideal - these pink flip flops I bought at Baker’s oh…4 years ago? They’re slim and dainty and elegant but, well, pink and old and beat up by now. But since I don’t regularly shop at Baker’s this made me think it was worth a shot - if they sold the perfect shoe, even in a different color several years ago, there was a chance they’d have something I’d like now.

Little did I know! I went into my local Baker’s and lo and behold - a whole wall of my ideal wedding shoe! Apparently, since it was winter, they weren’t stocking any of the other colors of the flip flop, but they put out allllll the pale (pale!!) gold ones! I frantically, like a crazy person, started flipping through about 40 pairs of them looking for my size and there weren’t any. But I asked a sales person who emerged from the back room, after 1 or 2 harrowing minutes of me freaking out to Mr. Bluebell, with the one remaining pair!

So here you go! My wedding flip flops:

Sorry for the not so good picture quality. And for how you can tell the tags are still on them. :-)

Is anyone else going a bit untraditional for your wedding shoes?

I’m wearing flip-flops or flat-heeled snadals for my beach wedding. My FI is 6′4″ and I’m 5′7″ so… I’m not even worrying about heels because I’d STILL be 4″ too short. That, and I’d sink in the sand.

i just bought my wedding shoes for my beach wedding at a gift convention. this is going to sound a little commercial-ish but… i also wanted a light gold, kinda champagne-ish peep toe heels but after seeing sugar toes flip flops, i had to take them. and plus, i bought them for wholesale prices! check it out. they’re really cute in person. i ended up buying a whole set for my wedding party and the moms and the flower girl. the signature collection is more fancy wedding-ish than the other designs. i bet you can diy these flip flops… you can find the swarovsky rings at michaels.

Wow, I did groaned through your post, thinking how awful, she should just wear some beautiful leather shoes, but they are perfect, and bridal and great on your little feet.

I am going to barefoot for our ceremony and reception, both of which will be at the beach. I just LOVE the feel of sand between my toes. Everyone else will be barefoot as well. For the ride to the ceremony beach and then to the reception beach, I will be wearing flipflops, probably Reef brand. I am going to find a pair of nice heels, though, as we might end up in Waikiki after all of the older relatives go to bed!

Someone on here showed some dance shoes she bought for her wedding. I suggest one of those sites. Some have leather soles, but there should be plenty of choices.

Lele - some of my research on vegan shoes was posted here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2006/11/08/non-leather-wedding-shoes/
Hopefully one of those places will have what you’re looking for!!

Right now, I’m planning on getting Fenaroli’s “Victoria” flat slingback and dyeing it peacock blue. Or maybe a darker blue, I’m not sure. And I think a nice sparkly rhinestone shoe clip.
