As I have mentioned before, I have been very, very picky in my wedding shoe decision making. I wanted the following elements:
1) Non-leather (vegan)
2) Pale gold (not regular gold!)
3) Little to no heel (I intend to walk on grass and not have my feet hurt)
4) Strappy (just personal preference)
Then, when I was trying to figure out what exactly that might look like in the end, I realized what I really wanted was fancy flip flops! I have ten million pairs and wear them exclusively during the warm-enough seasons, and love fancy dress up ones especially. So it just seemed a very “me” idea to wear flip flops to my own wedding!
But…
a) It’s hard to find really classy flip flops
b) Any that are classy are almost always leather
c) They sometimes have black or tan or brown bottoms, and aren’t exclusively gold
d) Most of the golds are GOLD gold, not PALE gold (see, I’m picky!)
I found a pair a few months ago at Ann Taylor Loft that, well…I liked. But there were sequins on the straps, and even though they were pretty small and exactly the same shade of (not pale) gold as the rest, they just seemed slightly flashier than I really wanted. And when I tried them on with my dress, they were just too dark gold (sort of the effect of wearing brown shoes with a wedding dress). So back to the drawing board.
Then, a few weeks ago, I realized what exactly it was that I had in my head as the ideal - these pink flip flops I bought at Baker’s oh…4 years ago? They’re slim and dainty and elegant but, well, pink and old and beat up by now. But since I don’t regularly shop at Baker’s this made me think it was worth a shot - if they sold the perfect shoe, even in a different color several years ago, there was a chance they’d have something I’d like now.
Little did I know! I went into my local Baker’s and lo and behold - a whole wall of my ideal wedding shoe! Apparently, since it was winter, they weren’t stocking any of the other colors of the flip flop, but they put out allllll the pale (pale!!) gold ones! I frantically, like a crazy person, started flipping through about 40 pairs of them looking for my size and there weren’t any. But I asked a sales person who emerged from the back room, after 1 or 2 harrowing minutes of me freaking out to Mr. Bluebell, with the one remaining pair!
So here you go! My wedding flip flops:

Sorry for the not so good picture quality. And for how you can tell the tags are still on them.
Is anyone else going a bit untraditional for your wedding shoes?
