Flower Picking

January 22nd, 2007 @ 3:58 pm by Mrs. Apple

Miss Plum, my floral designer, will be designing all of my beautiful centerpieces, bouts, and bouquets. We set up a meeting early on Saturday to visit one of our local floral wholesalers, Agroproducts America. I’ve been to a couple of other floral wholesalers in the DFW area, and I would say they definitely have the most variety and the largest coolers in the DFW metroplex. Here are some sample photos of flowers that I really like and would like to have in my floral selection. My centerpiece colors incorporate every shade of green that I can find, splashes of pastel pink just to give it some more color, and chocolate brown for the branches. But I think the primary color I would like to have is green.

Here are some random photos I took on Saturday with Miss Plum. :)

I think this is lady’s mantle.

Google image of ranunculus ( I took a poor photo of one ) - it has become my favorite flower ever since I laid eyes on these suckers.

No idea what this one is called.

Of course the never disappointing hydrangea.

I like the size and shape of this birch tree but not feeling the color - I need thicker and darker branches.

I also fell in love with quince branches, but they won’t be in season for my end of May wedding. :(

I will be stealing my bouquet design from Mrs. Ladybug - lovin’ the white mesh wrap on the flowers.

I will also be stealing Mrs. Firefly’s boutonieres, too freaking cute! I love berries - I might need to put them into my bouquet somehow.

Here are some photos for my floral inspiration from Oct2006bride. We will also have 4 smaller arrangements around the base of the centerpiece just to give it some more flower eye candy. Please view my Admitting My Love For Branches blog for some more photo inspiration.

How did you choose your florals for your wedding? Did you pick through the florist’s book, bring your own photos, or just winged it with your florist?

I just got an estimate from my florist. I’m having around 150 guests and I’m only having the basic floral decorations. She gave me an estimate of $11,000! Is that just completely insane? or do I just not have a clue on how much flowers cost?

Lori - that is insanely high! I would suggest researching more vendors. Do your research, if you plan to do basic small arrangements you might be able to DIY it to save costs. I’d suggest going to any local wholesale floral and maybe ask them for some referrals. But definitely way too high for that price that you got quoted! Insane! Good luck with the vendor!

melodiouscarol - I think Mrs Bee will be having wiki’s up soon, listing great reviews on any vendors for specific cities. Also, i would recommend reading up on bridal magazines, banquet halls, your local museums, or gardens are usually inexpensive. Good luck!

thistleorchid - i don’t think it comes in green, booooo..but wouldn’t it be beautiful if it did. I think they only come in either white, shades of pink, yellow, red, and orange. I could be wrong though….let me know anyone if i am!

We timed the wedding so that dahlias would be in bloom. Since I’m doing it on my own I did some searching for a few ideas, but I prefer the simple (plunk em in a vase) arrangements to the more elaborate florist ones. I can do my own plunking, and since we live in the midst of dahlia farms, I’m able to do mine for cheap. Picture of my $14 bouquet in bio.

we are hoping to have peonies in bloom and also use ranunculas in shades of pink with green accent. the price of $11,000 for flowers is ridiculously outrageous. you can do beautiful arragements, etc yourself.
