Moments of Indecision

January 22nd, 2007 @ 6:31 pm by Mrs. Emerald

Last Friday afternoon I was perusing some online sales, when I stumbled on the Ann Taylor sale. Lo and behold, one of the dresses that I had previously considered as a potential bridesmaid’s dress was on sale for 50% off! From $188 to $94! Affordable AND adorable, haha (sorry, that was lame blush1.gif). I had dismissed it months ago as being too pricey for my girls (4 out of my 5 bridesmaids are students), but I still loved it for the flowy-ness and the empire waist.

Online, they still have sizes 6 through 12 on sale. Fabulous! My first impulse was to order all 5 bridesmaids dresses without having ever actually seen the dress in person. I was really worried that if I waited even another day or two to decide, the size 6’s would be sold out. Besides, there would be no harm done since they have a great return policy and I could return them to any AT store at any time.

But, I resisted the (strong) impulse, realizing that while the “Dark Wine” color looks lovely on my monitor, it would probably look different in real life. So I called up the only Ann Taylor in Chicago that carries their Celebrations line, and luckily they had a size 4 in stock which they put on hold for me.

After work, Mr. E and I made a mad beeline for AT, and much to my disappointment, the dress was not the color I was looking for… *sniff sniff* I’m looking for deep garnet, and the dress is maroon, more in the purple family. So much for that brief moment of frantic excitement. Even so, I bought the size 4 anyways and brought it home so my sister (aka 15 year old MOH) could try it on. While the dress is really pretty in the above picture, it was not flattering on her teenage figure. We (me, my sister and my mom) also agreed that the color was all wrong. I guess it wasn’t meant to be!

So why am I bothering to write about this?

In case someone else can take advantage of this great deal!! It would also be a cute rehearsal dinner dress… hrmm, good idea!!

aww - sorry that it didn’t work out for you, but thanks for sharing the very pretty pick!
and yes, you’re right - anyone can pick it up as a rehearsal dinner dress and another dress for special occasions!
thanks for keeping an eye out for other brides-to-be(es)! ;)

Ann Taylor has a very generous return policy. I returned 4 little white angora shawls yesterday and got full credit though I’d bought them in July (had my receipt).

Personally, I don’t like the feel of that silk georgette material — it’s very fingernails-on- the-blackboard to my sense of touch and I would be so miserable all day wearing it. Just some feedback in case anyone else gets the heebee-jeebees from it.

I actually ordered a couple of their sale BM dresses today for my MOH to try on - the dark wine Chloe and a floral one.

I figure I can always return them, hehe.

I was just in a wedding where the bride let us pick any dress in that collection and in that color. They were really cute, but they ARE a different color than they appear online. It was okay because it was a NYE wedding so the darker color looked really nice, but I can understand it not being “right.” I have to say, those dresses run big- I’m a size 4 (ALWAYS), and the size 2 was big. If other people are considering them as BM dresses, consider ordering down.

FYI White House/Black Market was having a fantastic sale last week - it’s probably still going on. I got a beautiful rehearsal dress originally $148 for $62. Sometimes Ann Taylor Loft has some incredible deals on the sale portion of their site, too. I got a $99 dress and a $39 purse for a total of $40 last month.

Hello Miss Emerald and Allison! You don’t happen to still have that size 4 do you? I’m actually searching for some dresses because I did the same thing you did and bought a ton of those dresses online about a month ago. And yes, the dresses seem to run VERY big! Anne Taylor doesn’t have any more in stock. I can always get them taken in, but I’m searching for a size 4 and two size sixes in the meantime! I’ll buy them directly from folks, even used if anyone has them. Please email me directly if you have any!! Thanks so so much! My email is
hadjioannou@yahoo.com.
