Beehive

January 23rd, 2007 @ 5:36 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • Jenny GoLightly wants to know if anyone has been able to find Siri bridesmaids dress for less than store prices? She’s tried Netbride, Pearl’s Place, RK Bridal. The dress her bm wants is $390. Please email her if you can’t post prices and store names.
  • Grace wants to know how to mail invitation scrolls. Are there special boxes?
  • Jessica is looking for a place to buy Eve of Milady dresses for less. The one she likes is $6000. Any ideas?
  • wsukarebear wants to know if anyone knows where to mail Bill Clinton a wedding invitation.
  • Katy is looking for suggestions for French themed weddings. Colors, flowers, decor, invitations, accents, signature drinks, etc.
  • honey wants to know if anyone has experience with glo-smile (teeth whitening treatment) from Sephora? How do you think it compares to Crests White Strips?
  • heyjanety wants to know the best site to buy pocketfolders for DIY invites. Also what’s the best type of glue to use?

Grace - I haven’t seen special boxes, but I know that places like the container store often have irregular shaped boxes that might work! Think a box along the lines of what a bracelet would come in from the jeweler’s

Does anyone have any suggestions for a French themed wedding? Color, flowers, decore, invitations, accents, signature drinks, everything pretty much?

Jessica - Have you tried calling Pearl’s Place for a quote on your EVM dress? When I was looking at one before I got my dress, they quoted me about $1500 less than it was selling for in the bridal salon.

JennyGoLightly - Have you considered getting them custom made? I had a local seamstress recreate a Siri dress I fell in love with, and she nailed every detail of it!

Jenny GoLightly - I looked everywhere and the only way I found it cheaper was to go to a trunk show. I think they gave 10% off. We were going to have them made, but then switched dresses last minute.

Katy - French as in France or like French Country, Baroque…?

Grace - how about mailing tubes for the scrolls. Makes sense to me.

Dani, French as in France. I’m getting married at a replica of a Versailles chateau, so something that would compliment the venue.

My only thoughts are Navy & gold. Baroque patterns and swirls. http://www.kenziekate.com/invite-catalog.php (see the Montreal invite for inspiration).
Also, this was a previous post that seems like it could tie in somehow: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/01/03/altar-ideas-again/

That’s all I got I’m afraid. Sounds like a wonderful venue!

Dani,
Thanks for your help. That’s so nice of you. I had already checked out Kenzie Kate’s and liked the invitation styles. I was thinking about topiary for the aisle, so we’re on the same train of thought!

Bee, you’re fabulous! Thanks so much…I wanted that too :)

Katy: Hey, this is kind of a history question, so let me put my teacher cap on first :) The first thing I thought when you said Versailles was red and gold. But basically, any deep, rich color combined with gold would work — eggplant, maroon, wine, rust (but more red than orange), etc. Even cream and gold would work.

Honey - GoSmile (the tooth whitening treatment) works great, but is pretty expensive. You have to start with the Advanced formula capsules. You rub them on your teeth every day and the results are pretty much immediate. Once you complete the Advanced formula, you can get the day and night toothpastes and the on the go kits to maintain the whitening.

I preferred GoSmile to Crest White strips because they are much quicker. You don’t have to leave strips on, you just rub on the solution and leave it.

Good Luck!

Grace - you can also mail corked plastic bottles. I found some while looking for beach themed invites, and apparently they can be mailed as they are witout anyextra packaging. I understand if it wouldn’t match your theme, but if you can mail those, who knows what else you could get away with?

heyjanety,

I made my pocketfolds. http://www.xanga.com/shortcake2675/537854253/ta-da.html

I bought all the paper from Michaels and used Ad Tech permanent bond glue runner (from Walmart) to glue them. My invites were rather small, fitting into A2 envelopes. If you want bigger ones or don’t want to make them, check out paper-source.com. I sealed mine with Velcro dots cut in half. The blogs around that post are filled with rants and raves about making the invites. It wasn’t too expensive, less than $150 to make and mail 100 invites. Plus, even with enclosures and double envelopes (I also used an A6 outer envelope) they were only an ounce to mail. Good Luck!

heyjanety–

My fave brand of glue for papercrafting is called SoBo; it dries clear and strong. You can buy it at the craft section in Walmart, or at Michael’s or a fabric store, too!

Katy- my local french restaraunt makes these incredible kir royales. It’s champagne with creme de cassis (blackcurrant liquor). They also make their mimosas with fresh squeezed raspberry juice (maybe not french traditional, but still really yummy).

According to wikipedia, it can also be made with peach or raspberry liquors.

As for others, I know fleur de lis jewelry is very popular right now. You could also have famous french films for table numbers. Or just snooty waiters (kidding).

I purchased my pocketfolds from cardsandpockets.com. They had the best prices.

Katy- I think the previous suggestions have been good, and I like you’re idea of topiaries. Perhaps gold candelabras would work in your decor. I also think the fluer de lis would make a nice accent. Here is a knot bio for a wedding that used the fluer de lis throughout.

French/Versailles theme: definitely gold with a dramatic color. Perhaps you can see Marie Antoinette (with Kirsten Dunst) for inspiration? There were actually a lot of pastels used in that movie, but I think that was intended to emphasize youth.

In terms of flowers, the fleur de lis is based on the shape of the iris. I think that’s a really dramatic flower - lots of them in simple bouquets or centerpieces would be really cool.

And, of course, you’ve got to serve lots of champagne. :-)

Did anyone try to negotiate the prices for dinner/wedding packages at their venue? The venue i am considering has a set price for different packages but the bridal bargain book says to always negotitate. Any tips on how to be a skillful negotiator would be helpful!
