*THE* Dress… FINALMENTE!

January 23rd, 2007 @ 4:13 pm by Mrs. Pearl

I’ve made the dress decision.

I will be ordering the Jasmine H338 on Saturday. I’ve been looking at the dress for some time and finally decided.

jasmine21.jpg

On the left is the original version of the dress. It’s lace, which will be lighter than satin for our Southern California wedding in July. It’s got a vintage-inspired look to it, which fits with our theme. And it has pickups, which I really like. On the right are the sketches of how the dress will look after modifications — I’ll be getting the dress with short sleeves and a deep v-neck. The look of the dress is sort of reminiscent of the Monique Lhuillier dresses that have the short sleeved lace jackets (IMO). I’m so excited about the dress because I’ll be wearing something that’s really different.

Now, I just need to decide on the sash color. The choices are:

1. The gold sash (shown above)

2. Ivory sash (but in the 4 inch width)

3. Chocolate brown sash (but in the 4 inch width

Which do you like best?

By the way, for ladies in the Los Angeles area, there is a Jasmine trunk show at Bridal Elegance in Torrance this weekend. All orders placed this weekend will get 10% off the cost of the dress.

i adore this dress! if you are getting it in ivory, i suggest an ivory or gold sash. i don’t care for the brown. i find it too distracting.

That’s interesting, I thought about getting a different strapless Jasmine lace dress (no pickups) and making it sleeveless or cap sleeves with a deep V. Great minds think alike! I was just afraid of what the alterations would cost, and then I fell in love with my already-perfect Casablanca. It’s a beautiful gown, you will look amazing, and, it’s true, it will be quite different. A lot of gowns look very same-y these days.

Anyway, the color depends on what other colors your doing. I like the ivory or the chocolate myself, just because they’d stand out. But you can get any color you want–more than a few eBay sellers list 4″ ribbon in lots of colors. Or, is there a good ribbon and trim store in LA? I know that M&J Trim here in NYC and on their online shop sells gorgeous 4″ satin ribbon. I know because I bought some in navy! Don’t think it will work with my gown, so it will be used for my bouquet or something else.

Sorry, I meant the GOLD ribbon would stand out, not the ivory.

both sashes look great!
you should pick the one you like the best and/or goes best w/ your venue/wedding colors/season..etc? ;)

congrats on finding THE dress!!

tina says:

you know what would be great? if you wore the ivory for the ceremony and switched to the brown for the reception! beautiful!!

Jennifer says:

Miss Pearl! I love it! That is a similar look I want for my dress! Where do you plan to get it modified? I also live in LA, and was looking for someone that could make me a lace jacket to go over my dress (so I can take it off at the reception!) Thanks for your help :)

CK says:

Where are you getting your sash material from?

twelvetigers says:

Gorgeous! I like the way the gold looks in the picture, so I vote for that.

9.
WeezerMonkey says:

I vote for “not ivory.” :)

Actually, brown is my fave, but that’s because I love contrast.

10.
Miss Lime says:

Again, I’m in the monkey boat. I vote for chocolate brown, then gold. No ivory. Beautiful dress, btw. It totally suits your event and you.

nancy says:

It is just gorgeous. Congratulations on making those design changes. I cant’ go with the chocolate vote though because it makes it look too L’Hullier. Make it look less like a knock off with some color in your palette.

Iris says:

Sometimes brides look cut-in-half, shorter, and thicker by wearing a dark sash/ribbon against a light colored dress. This is an especially important consideration for petite or plus sizes, or those who are long-waisted. The single color look can help create a long lean image.

If you don’t have the dress to try a sash with, maybe wrap yourself in a white/cream sheet and tie a bathrobe belt or necktie around and have someone take some pictures to see how it photographs on you.

David’s Bridal also sells wide satin sashes, at a good price in a zillion colors.

Beautiful dress — excellent choice, Miss Pearl :) Brown is my first choice, but I think gold will be beautiful as well with your color scheme.

Miss Plumeria says:

Beautiful! I love Jasmine dresses.. but then of course, I’m biased. ;-) I think gold would be lovely and classic, but choose whichever you love most!

Go Amie says:

Jennifer - Jasmine will make any dress in their line with your choice of a number of sleeve/neckline options. See http://www.jasminebridal.com/html/web2/promotions_templeready.asp for details. :)

Miss Pearl says:

Jennifer: Amie beat me to it :) I thought it would be too expensive for me to get the modifications done, but apparently Jasmine only charges $85 for any number of the “temple ready” changes to be made. The $85 was worth the hassle of not having to find the perfect little jacket to go with it!

Our colors are pink and brown, which is one reason why the brown came up.

CK: I planned to get the ribbon from RomanticFlowers.com. They have a pretty wide range of ribbon and beautiful color selections. I plan to get the 4 inch Swiss satin ribbon, but I like the Midori satin better. I may just get a smaller width of ribbon in order to get the Midori.

Iris, that was one of my concerns. I’m hoping it will look OK because, as a pear-shaped person, it’ll probably be better to have attention attracted upwards (especially around one of the smaller measurements). I’ll definitely have to consider the lighter sash now due to your comments — I’d never thought about that before!

That dress looks awesome!!! I think the current sash looks great with it.

ivory or gold ceremony & brown reception!!

very unique & pretty dress!!

Lisa says:

my first instinct says to get the brown because of the contrast. but the gold and/or ivory has the classic, understated look which is also lovely. i think i’d end up choosing the ivory.

congrats on finding your dress. its gorgeous.

MissBree says:

I say go for the gold:)

and…just say no to the chocolate brown sash.

Erin says:

I ALMOST bought that dress as well. It was between that one and the Monique Lhuillier gown you mentioned - so we obviously have very similar tastes!

I’m also having a gown made - look at the bottom of my knot bio to see my design. It’s SO similar to yours!

22.
Erin says:

Oh - I’m also doing a gold sash. Personally, I think it gives JUST enough contrast with the ivory. The brown is too dark IMO - draws too much attention to your waist and away from your face and the rest of the dress!

23.
Miss Pearl says:

Erin, the dress is gorgeous! BTW, the knottie on the right is soontobemrsstone. There’s a period in there somewhere (I know I’m not getting the spelling exactly right), but it’s her :)

It’s funny because I really thought I’d like the brown more, but it seems like gold is the popular choice.
