About Mrs. Orchid

Favors

January 25th, 2007 @ 5:17 pm by Mrs. Orchid

For our wedding favors, I wanted to incorporate something that has significance to our Thai or Chinese heritage. These are my favorites so far:

A) Soap intricately carved into a Thai floral ‘Malai

03

B) Thai Benjarong Jars (Traditional Thai Five colored porcelain)

14

C) Mini Candles Shaped in Thai Fruits & Pastries

12

D) Chopsticks

05

30-30

E) Chinese Teacups

11

F) Mini Clay Potted Orchids

04

Of all these I think the Benjarong jars would probably be the most expensive, but they are my favorite by far. Even though I think chopsticks are a cute favor, I think it’s been a little overdone.

Which do you like? Which would you like to receive if you were a guest?

I would say that anything that is intrinsically useful and pretty long term so on that basis, I would go with the jar or the teacups (loving both!). I think that you could still make use of either of those if they are left behind en masse (which is a favour possibility) rather than having to worry about watering 75 wilting orchids.
Gorgeous choices though!x

Orchids are super hard to keep up once you get them home without extensive instructions on repotting and the right type of soil, etc. I’m just afraid they’d all die. I would love the chopsticks myself if I were a guest. Or the jar, but that could get real expensive real fast. Soaps are alawys useful in a guest bathroom, especially pretty soaps.

my husband and i were thinking of doing those intricate soaps (my dad’s from thailand) because they’re so unique and i’ve never seen that as a wedding favor before…we ended up choosing chopsticks though because they were the best bang for our buck (especially since we got them in thailand) and they’re the most practical..we ended up with tons of left over chopsticks and now we have plenty to eat with..haha

Thanks for all your feedback. For the record the Orchids are made of clay and are not real. :)

Personally I qould prefer the chopsticks or teacups over the other ideas. Both things I can use but they don’t have to match my home decor.

i’d be happy with any of them, but since we’re voting.. i vote for the soaps. they’re unique, reflect your cultural background and can be used and won’t break the bank. got other things to spend the money on!

the jars are usually really cheap in thailand but they break easily when bringing them home :( i brought home a bunch of them and they were wrapped well and still managed to break.

Miss Orchid - I like the soap, but if not that, then the chopsticks. I think most people won’t like something they can’t use!

I like the jars (I brought some home from Thailand and everyone loved them) or the orchids.

i love the chopsticks and the teacups — something everyone can use and not limited to a particular home decor.

Mmm… I’m apparently the only one who thinks the candles are ADORABLE!!! But I also really like the teacup idea.
