Hands Ceremony

January 25th, 2007 @ 2:12 pm by Mrs. Apple

My friend sent this to me via email yesterday morning. She made me cry at 10 in the morning….

The Hands Ceremony

Rebecca and George, Please face each other and take each other’s hands, so that you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever.

These are the hands that will work along side yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes your way.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will give you support and encouragement to chase down your dreams.

These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

These are the hands that will lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into eyes that are filled with overwhelming love for you.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

I have this written into my ceremony! In the version I had found, it said something when he is holding my hands that “These are the hands that will massage tension away in the evening after a long day at work”. My fiance LOVES that part.

We used the Blessing of the Hands for our recent wedding (a slightly different version than this). It’s the part of the ceremony that I most vividly remember now–it really gives you a chance to stop and reflect. And so many of our guests commented on it afterwards as being especially poignant.

I used this in my ceremony. The first time I sent it to my husband and my maid of honor they BOTH cried and neither of them to emotional.

It was beautiful, everyone loved it and I think the words are really meaningful.

I’ve been looking for something that would complement a Scottish hand binding ceremony, and this seems awesome. . . thank you so much for posting it!!

At first I did not read the first part that you wrote, i jumped right into the reading. I was crying by the end. Then I wanted to see who wrote this and noticed that you cried as well. Thank God! I thought I was the only girl in the world that cried at 8am.
