Let This Be A Warning To You…

January 25th, 2007 @ 1:31 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

Much as we’d all like to keep a jovial, happy mood on our wedding days, I must advise against trying what this bride did:

Bride’s Joke Breaks Off Austrian Wedding
VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Wedding jokes aren’t always funny. When a bride in Austria jokingly answered “no” instead of “yes” when asked if she wanted to marry her husband-to-be, the official performing the civil wedding promptly broke off the ceremony.

Not even the bride’s sobs could reverse the decision and the couple had to wait two and a half months before they could give it another - successful - try, the Austrian newspaper Oberoesterreichischen Nachrichten reported Friday.

Officials at the registry office in the city of Steyr where the mishap occurred declined to comment directly but noted the incident was highly unusual, according to the newspaper.

What do you think?

I feel that if you’d rather your wedding have a jovial tone vs. a serious one, then that’s your choice. Personally I would have went on with everything else with someone else playing minister and then ‘officially’ gotten married a bit later, but had the whole celebration that night.

well. i dunno. i mean. jokes are fine… but that line or moment is really not the time to joke around.

but i agree, the officiant was a bit harsh. but then again. i mean a lot of people nowadays don’t take marriage seriously.

i would’ve refused to marry them too. what the bride did was immature and disrespectful.

jokes are best when funny, what’s funny about a bride saying no when asked such a important question? I think it serves the bride right, and teaches her a lesson abourt being an adult, and a wife.

IMO it just teaches her that she should keep people around her that understand her sense of humor. We didn’t hear anything about the husband in this…perhaps he was in on it too? Not everyone chooses to have their ceremony in serious and solemn manner, especially if it’s not a religious ceremony.
